Tools for Humanity, a core contributor to the eyeball-scanning cryptocurrency project Worldcoinco-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, has appointed four former executives from Apple, Google, Meta, Tesla and X to its leadership ranks.
Worldcoin aims to create a global digital currency that is distributed fairly to everyone by verifying the uniqueness of each individual with biometric data through the World ID digital identity system.
Tools for Humanity argues that the age of artificial intelligence has increased the need for “proof of humanness,” with new hires being recruited to help address privacy and security challenges, as well as “building technology to develop a more equitable economic system.”
Former Apple, Meta, and Tesla executive Rich Heley joins as Director of Devices, responsible for leading the design, performance, and accessibility of Orb, a hardware device developed by Tools for Humanity for Worldcoin’s iris scanning technology.
Meanwhile, former X executive Damien Kieran becomes Chief Privacy Officer at Tools for Humanity, with a primary mission to work with privacy experts and regulators globally to “shape new industry standards for privacy compliance and protection.”
Former Google Android Security Director Adrian Ludwig takes on the role of Chief Information Security Officer, responsible for internal and external data security at Tools for Humanity.
Finally, Ajay Patel joins the company as Head of World ID, leading go-to-market strategy, public and private partnerships, and overall user experience. Patel previously led the identity team at Google Payments.
Worldcoin has faced regulatory challenges in several countries since its launch last year. Currently based on the OP Mainnet, Worldcoin plans to move to its own Layer 2 blockchain later this summer.
