Pokémon Duel Or Pokémon Comaster in Japanese, is a game of strategy derived from the basic Pokémon games. You will therefore find almost the same attacks but the way of playing is totally different. Described as a game of plateau or chess, Pokémon Duel is played with figurines and aims to reach the opposing camp to achieve victory. Since the game is only available in Japanese and English at the moment, we offer you a detailed guide so that you understand the gameplay of the application.
Getting started
A first NPC called Pink introduces us to theCarmonte Island via a television show. He directly announces to us that a big championship is going to take place in order to win a huge building: the Pokémon Figure Game World Championships.
After that, you find yourself on the plane heading to Carmonte. Luca, your rival calls out to you. Multiple choice answers are available in this game but do not really affect the story.
You arrive on the island and customs asks you for your name. It’s time to choose your pseudo, publicly visible. The staff offers you your first Duel Set composed of 6 Pokémon, as well as a mask to follow the island’s tradition.
Then it’s time to choose your avatar. Multiple hair styles and skin tones are available. The tutorial is then launched. Luca explains the bases during your first fight. After the tutorial, you will receive a message from the Concierge confirming your registration for the PFG World Championships and giving you a booster ticket free which can be exchanged for a booster in the shop.
The basic rules
The goal is simple: use your team, or deck, 6 Pokémon figuresmove them around the board, face the opposing figures until you reach the enemy line marked with a red flag. If the opposing player reaches your blue flag, the game is over and you lose. The player starting the game is drawn at random.
Before performing an action, you can click on a figure and get its details: its rank, its MP and its attacks. Each figure has movement points, or Move Points (MP). During the first action, the MP is reduced to 1.
It is impossible to pass through an enemy figure. If you are stuck, then a fight will launch. At first glance, the fights seem to be based on the chance and the type of attacks has no effect here. Indeed, you just spin the wheel and a random attack is selected, but we will see later that the strategy is indeed present.
A blue attack represents a dodge, while a red attack is a missed attack. There are also purple and gold attacks which we will explain later.
The Pokémon that lost the battle is returned to the Pokémon Center (at the edge of the board) and is therefore unusable. When 3 Pokémon are sent to the Pokémon Center, the first one returns to the deck and will not be usable until the next turn.
You can circle an enemy with two of your figures. By doing this, no battle is necessary, you automatically send the opposing figure to the Pokémon Center!
You can also use cards Or “plates” in English, more or less strong and having very varied effects.
When a duel is won, you get promotion points in order to go from league to league, but also fragments. Your rank is also changed, so if you lose your rank goes down.
You can also get “Time Boosters» : these are boosters which are unlocked after a certain time and it is possible to keep 3 in your inventory. The game being a free-to-playyou can unlock boosters using ruby if you are not patient. When you click on one of the boosters, the list of figures obtainable in the pack is presented.
You can add a figurine obtained in your team by clicking on the tab “Decks”. Then you just have to click on “Edit Figures“. You will then see the 6 figurines present in your deck and those present in your collection below. Click on the figurine you want to remove from your deck then on the one you want to add. The exchange will be done automatically. You can sort the Pokémon in your collection by their number of MP but also use other filters thanks to the option “Display Settings“. It is possible to have 3 times the same Pokémon in your deck.
The fragments obtained at the end of the battles allow you to open Booster Locked. You get 3 fragments per battle won and 1 per battle lost. 10 fragments = 1 booster. Locked boosters allow you to unlock rare items that can be fused with your Pokémon. To do this, go to the tab “Fusion”. Select your Pokémon and then the desired item. With the fusion, the figurine will gain a certain number of XP which will then allow it to increase in level. On the other hand, this action costs coins and the item can only be used once.
When a Pokémon levels up, you can increase the size of attacks on the wheel or decrease the one of failed attacks. If you have no idea, just click on “recommended” and the game will suggest the best solution for you.
You can perform trainings which will not affect your rank if you are still in doubt about the rules.
Every day you will get daily rewards like rubies. daily quests are also available to obtain rewards. 3 missions are then active each day. After 10 completed missions, you can obtain a special mission.
How the wheel works during combat
As you will have understood, the fights between two figurines follow rules of chance, number and colors.
The colors
– Attacks white : standard attacks based only on the number entered.
– Attacks red : failed attacks.
– Attacks blue : allow you to dodge the enemy attack.
– Attacks violets : better than white attacks, they allow you to inflict status damage.
– Golden attacks: These attacks far outperform white or purple attacks.
The different scenarios
– White attack vs white attack: the highest number wins.
– White vs Gold/Gold vs Gold: Highest number wins.
– White vs Violet: Violet attack wins.
– White vs Red/Gold vs Red: the red attack loses every time since it is a failed attack.
– Blue vs White, Red or Blue: no effect since the blue attack allows you to dodge the enemy attack.
– Blue or Purple vs Gold: Gold attack wins.
– Violet vs Red: The violet attack wins.
The various status problems
– Poisoning : Damage dealt by an attack is reduced by -20. (If you are severely poisoned, it will be reduced by -40).
– Confusion : The spun move changes in combat
– Paralysis : Turns one viable attack into a miss
– Falling asleep : Cannot move or attack. You can wake up with a “flat” card or by placing a figure next to it.
– Freeze : Same as sleep.
Get figurines
The figurines can be obtained in winner of the fights or by opening boosters. Boosters are available in the shop but are mainly obtainable at the end of a won battle.
THE “Time boosters» then obtained only open after a certain duration. There are different types of boosters and therefore different waiting times:

The ranks of the figurines:
– C: municipality
– UC: Uncommon
– R: Rare
– EX: legendary
Evolve a figurine
In the game, it is possible to evolve your Pokémon. During the tutorial, it is explained that you must have the basic figurine as well as the evolution one. The goal is not to evolve a figurine to obtain the figurine above but to evolve the figurine in full fight thanks to the two figurines! So, if you evolve your figurine in the middle of the fight, you will get a bonus of +10 on the damage done.
To be able to activate evolutions in the middle of combat, you must first have defined the evolution in your deck. So, if Rattata is part of your team, and if you have a Rattatac figurine, you just have to click on the small circle located under Rattata and place Rattatac in the box “Evolution”.
The merger
When you open boosters, most often you get rare materials Or “Rare Metal» usable when you want to improve a figurine.
Click on the tab “Fusion” at the bottom of the menu and select the Pokémon you want to upgrade. Be careful, this action will will cost parts and the item can only be used once.
There are three different types of materials:
– THE blue materials : they are used to increase the experience of the figurine and thus increase its level.
– THE green materials : they are used to increase the power of attacks of +1.
– THE golden materials : only useful for earn coins. Go to the shop and click on “Exchange coins”. Sell all the golden cubes you find and you will get a mountain of coins!
The color of the materials is not the only criterion, there are also ranks of rarity just like for figurines. For example, you will not be able to use a cube that is too rare with a common figurine and vice versa.
If you own two identical figurinesit is also possible to merge them together in order to gain experience.
Some advice
– Born waste not yours ruby hastily, you will need it later to progress in the game. Unless you want to pay with real money, arm yourself with patience for boosters that require time, for example. So keep them safe and use them to get special boosters in the shop which will guarantee you at least one figurine of EX rank. The game offers enough resources like daily quests so that you never have to use real money.
– Always try to circle your enemy during combat or to post your figurines on his entry points.
– Even if it may seem boring, do not hesitate to carry out the missions of the training camp !
