VGC 2017: The revolution is underway!

THE championship points to be won at events have been updated. To qualify for Worlds 2017, players in North America must have 500CP, in Europe and Latin America 400CPin Asia 300CP and in South Africa only 200CP. The official website Pokemon.com has been updated regarding all changes.

The detail concerning the Banned Pokémon were unveiled today (see below).

New seasonnew Pokemonnew rules and new circuitThe revolution is underway, even if it is not unanimous among players.

– The fights must be played in Duo (2v2) with a Pokémon Sun or Pokémon Moon game.
– Only Pokémon featured in the Alola Regional Pokedex will be allowed.
– Some Pokemon Legendary or Fabulous Forbidden:

Mega Gems prohibited.
Z Crystals authorized.

So far, apart from the ban on Mega Gemsit was predictable and therefore in the end nothing really new. But, what will totally change the game itself is to be followed in the new mechanics of the mode ” Versus “These “improvements” may even force some players to rethink their own playing style.

Please note that the Guardian Pokémonas well as most of the Ultra-Chimeras are not banned.

A World Champion in Distress? Here’s Why.

New Timer System:

As mentioned in this article, the fights will now have a new timer, this time individual. 10 minutes per player to choose their actions, and at most 60 seconds per lap. But in the end, what does it change? Simply everything. This new stopwatch signals the death of the technique called Timer Stall » which until then aimed to take one’s time as much as possible to play as few rounds as possible when one is in an advantageous situation. And guess who is known for his gifts in this area? None other than the reigning World Champion, Wolfe Glick.

With this Individual time trialthe one who reaches 0 has lost. Players will therefore have to get used to playing quickly, without forgetting to take into consideration every single element.

So is it really bad to have this new timer? We think not. It will revolutionize competitive Pokémon play, but overall it will be better for the spectacle since battles will increasingly end in total KOs rather than “incomplete” matches. Additionally, the new combat tool which allows you to see the changes in statistics of the Pokemon in-game, will help players. They will now waste less time taking notes.

New tournament hierarchy and BFL:

Tournament BFL (Best Finish Limit) Championship Points max Cash Prize max
First Challenge 2 per 3 month period 20 At the discretion of the TO*
Internet Competitions 45 0
Midseason Showdowns 4 50 At the discretion of the TO*
Regional 4 200 3’000
International 4 500 3’000

*TO: Tournament Organizer / Tournament Organizer

With the recent introduction of cash prizes (Cash prize) and some BFL as high, there is a good chance that the community will expand as well as the average number of players per tournament. The only downside is the planning of major events. The first tournament International will take place under these rules at London from December 9th to 11th less than a month after the release of 7G. This date has been heavily criticized by the community, especially in Europe, which will only receive the game from November 23, 2 weeks before the tournament. Too little time for preparation and yet many people around the world have already booked their flights.

PGL finally offers players a reliable training location

Announced yesterday with the rules, a new Rank mode which will use the above rules will be available throughout the year. While most trainers are happy with this initiative that has long been claimed by the community, the more down-to-earth claim that the players’ favorite training location will remain Pokémon Showdown.

In short, the VGC 2017 called WCS 2017 on the official website of Pokemonwill be a real nest of novelties whether in terms of circuit, Pokemons or even the playing styles adopted by players.
