Has Sony removed one of the promises of the PS5 in its latest update? The “Resume Activity” functionality has disappeared from the console interface and this is not a bug.
The PS5 introduced its share of rather practical new features within its interface, with a brand new menu to navigate within its library and discover more about its own games.
One of the most original new features of the console turned out to be the Activities functionality, a series of “cards” allowing you to go directly to an advanced section of a game without having to go through its menu .
But it appears that Sony has disabled the ability to resume activity in the last two PS5 updates, a decision that is already causing debate in the gaming community.
The Activity function is losing its usefulness
The affair began last month when many players saw the words “Resume activity” disappear in the interface of their PS5. Very practical, this is similar to the Xbox Series Quick Resume, saving you long seconds when launching a game.
If we could then think of a bug, the latest system update for the PS5 (version 24.07-10.20.00) mentions a change to the “Activity” functionality of the console interface. The different cards now indicate Not started, In progress or Completed.
No mention is made of the “Resume Activity” function, which remains absent from the console menu for all games tested. You should know that it did not work with all games, mainly with titles published by Sony (Uncharted, Sackboy: a Big Adventure, Ghost of Tsushima, Astro’s Playroometc.).
Although Activity cards were present for hundreds of games, the “Resume activity” button only launched the program normally for a large majority of them. Its use therefore remained in the minority in the PS5 catalog, both by publishers and players.
YouTuber Mystic sums up the situation very well with numerous examples, concluding that Sony has undoubtedly “abandoned” the functionality, quite simply. The latest update therefore did not correct a possible bug hoped for by players, but would confirm that it has been disabled for good.
