PC, Mac, and Steam Deck gamers can now enjoy a simple, integrated way to record and share their gaming sessions with the official release of Steam’s Game Recording Tool.
To record their gameplay, players had become accustomed to using solutions such as the Xbox Game Bar, Nvidia GeForce tools or even AMD Adrenalin. But Steam now brings its own approach directly integrated into its launcherwith innovative features.
Indeed, since the beta phase launched last June, Valve has added several new features, such as advanced export options and the ability to configure settings specific to each game. The company has also integrated a “ Session View ”, which includes a recording and screenshot manager with tags and data specific to each title.
After an automatic platform update, players can manually start recording using a keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + F11 by default) or set it to automatic mode. They then have the possibility to adjust the duration, quality and storage space used. For reference, one hour of video with settings “ students » will take approximately 5.4 GB of storage.
Valve indicates that this tool works with any game, including those not hosted on the Steam platformprovided that the Steam overlay is activated. Recording is disabled by default and can be configured in Steam settings, in a new dedicated tab.
The Steam recording tool also stands out for its smooth integration with the platform, allowing you to review recent gaming sessions using the Steam overlay and the new timeline functionality. Players can go back and easily extract the best moments.
Finally, the tool is also “ Steam Deck Verified “, which means that users of Valve’s portable console will also be able to benefit from it. A great new feature that further enriches the functionality of the Steam Deck.
