Cooking is a very important feature in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom that will allow you to restore your hearts but above all to resist tons of penalties such as cold, heat or even these terrible miasmas of the depths, although in some cases the outfits will be more practical than the recipes.
How to cook in Zelda TotK?
Right from the tutorial, on the sky island of the Prelude, you can find a Golem in front of a fire and a pot who will explain to you how to cook. You will also very quickly need to prepare cold-proof dishes when you venture into the mountains.
Prerequisites
Here’s what you need to know before you begin:
- You can find pots regularly during your exploration, in camps, relays or villages,
- Otherwise, it is possible to find Soneaus Artifacts from portable pot : this allows you to take out a pot at any time without needing a fire. Be careful, it is for single use only.
- It is also possible to grill food, without cooking it, simply by leaving it next to the fire or by shooting a fire arrow at it,
- To create a fire : Take a bundle of wood (obtained by cutting down trees) and a flint (by breaking rocks) from your inventory. Then place them on the ground and hit the flint with a metal weapon (like a sword) to light the fire,
Take the ingredients out of your inventory and cook
- Open your inventory with “+” and go to the tab with the apple icon called “materials”,
- There, choose your first ingredient (an apple for example) and click on it with “A” then select the “take” option,
- You see, above Link, it says “selected 1/5”: this means that you can take up to 5 ingredients to cook a dish,
- In your materials list, click “A” whenever you want take an ingredient,
- When your selection is complete, press “B” to return to the game,
- Place yourself in front of a pot and wait for the “cook” option to appear: then click on A so that Link throws the food into the pot and begins his cooking,
- You will get a dish that you can then go and consume in your inventory “+”, in the tab with the pressure cooker icon “dishes”.
The list of available effects
Absolutely every recipe, even that horrible dish you messed up, will help you restore your red hearts. But it doesn’t stop there: combined with the right ingredients, dishes can grant you some significant additional effects, which are as follows. Be careful though, insects and monster loot are not edible and should only be used to make remedies.
Note : effects cannot be combined in a recipe (if you take 1 glagla mushroom and 1 chili mushroom for example, the effects will cancel each other out). So choose the key ingredient carefully according to the desired effect.
