Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is very difficult, and unless you’re an excellent player, you shouldn’t expect to complete it without using the Blessings of the Shadow Realm. Players have learned the hard way to collect the Splinters of the Eldritch Tree, and while their impact is much less noticeable, you shouldn’t overlook the other type of similar item: the Revered Spirit Ashes.
What are the Revered Spiritual Ashes used for?
They are linked to the system that is automatically unlocked when entering the Shadow Realm. Rest at any Faded Grace site, then select the corresponding line: Blessings from the Shadow Realm.
This system can be compared to the Golden Seeds and the Tears of Life, by collecting the requested objects, you strengthen facets of your character. It’s up to you to see if you prefer to play with, or without its help. The cost of improving blessings is increasing, you only need one object at the start, then two, then three, up to a maximum of 5 to unlock the level 10, which is the maximum.
The effect of each level of blessing is not entirely linear, but on average it will increase the damage dealt by your invocations and other players in cooperative by 7.5%. In addition, it will reduce the damage they take by 3.75% per level on average. In total, this gives a bonus of +75% damage and -37.5% damage takenwhich makes a huge difference. The damage reduction also applies to your mount, Torrent.
Let us clarify that the effect of blessings is permanent, but that it only applies in the new region of the DLC. They will not help you in the base game. Their effect is retained in New Game Plus mode.
Where to find Revered Ashes?
In most cases, you will find these Venerated Ashes placed on an altar in the shape of a decapitated humanoid praying. Their characteristic shape makes them easy to spot.
Later, you will find others on special enemies, or as loot in very specific locations.
You can find several of these quickly by going around the Grave Plain, then exploring Belurat Dungeon to the northwest.

You will need to open the Tower of Shadows of Enir-Ilim, to collect the last ashes.
