AMD surpasses Intel in server CPUs for the first time in history

In recent years we have seen how Intel has been declining in terms of sales both at the level of processors for users and those for business computing systems, and now, we know that amd has managed, for the first time, to surpass the company that created the Xeon CPUs in the component market for server. After an extremely large drop due to problems with its hardware for users, the company does not seem to recover when seeing how many companies prefer to choose the EPYC that offers amd compared to the Intel Xeon, after having dominated the market for many years.

Intel’s financial problems do not stop, after having lost a large part of the trust of users, having launched processors that have not been very successful (at the moment) in the market and having had to make extremely large cuts in its staff and projects, are now also behind AMD in one of its main sources of income, processors created specifically for servers, as the company is starting to lose a lot of ground in the data center segment to its only two competitors, thus remaining in last place.

AMD rises while Intel falls, this is how things stand in terms of server processors

One of the most surprising facts that we have been able to see in the battle fought amd and Intel is in the feat that the company that created the processors has achieved EPYCsince for the first time they have higher incomes in the segment of the CPU for data centers compared to Intel. The data revealed by SemiAnalysis indicates that the company led by Lisa Su has surpassed Intel, its main rival, in data center revenue in the third quarter of 2024, since the firm registered $3,549 million, a much higher figure to Intel’s $3.3 billion.

In this case, the income that we can find includes practically all the products that both companies have created specifically for servers, that is, both the server processors and the catalog of AI products that both companies have. These reports in turn indicate that AMD’s advantage does not only come from AI, a sector in which they have more experience than Intel, but they also ensure that EPYC CPUs have registered higher adoption rates compared to Xeon.

AMD overtook Intel for the first time in data center revenue in 3Q24. But, their DC revenue scale is small that they are less than NVIDIA’s networking (non compute) revenue alone. https://t.co/3LEGTkDF8T

Intel is currently in a really bad situation, since they have seen how all their income has fallen, for example, the brand has not managed to reach 500 million dollars in sales of Gaudí AI, which is an alarming situation for the firm. , given that competitors such as AMD and NVIDIA aspire to generate billions of dollars. But if we focus only on servers, although AMD has managed to surpass its eternal rival, it is still far behind NVIDIA, since the solutions they offer currently have more than half of this market.
