Are AirPods too expensive for your taste? We have good news

Apple already dominates the wireless earphone market, but apparently it hopes to sell even more units by offering affordable AirPods. In any case, this is what is suggested by an article published this week by the site 9to5Mac, which relays a note from analyst Jeff Pu. In essence, the note would corroborate rumors circulating about a new generation of AirPods that could be released in 2024. And this would also mention the development of new affordable wireless headphones, called “AirPods Lite”.

For the moment, this information should, of course, be considered with caution. However, it is also important to note that Jeff Pu seems to corroborate the previous predictions of analyst Ming Chi-Kuo, who already mentioned the possibility that Apple would release affordable wireless headphones in 2023.

$99 AirPods?

As a reminder, in a publication dating from January 2023, Kuo already mentioned the next generation of AirPods, which would be planned for the second half of 2024 or for the first half of 2025. And the analyst also explained that this new generation should include AirPods “more affordable”, the price of which would be 99 dollars in the United States.

And, in February 2023, Ming-Chi Kuo once again mentioned this “low-cost” version of AirPods.

Two versions of AirPods 4?

Otherwise, in October, Mark Gurman, journalist at Bloomberg, mentioned the existence of two versions of AirPods 4, with different prices. According to this journalist’s sources, the most expensive version would be differentiated from the cheaper version thanks to the noise cancellation functionality, and thanks to a new charging case equipped with a speaker for localization.

Apple would adopt this strategy, because of disappointing sales of AirPods 3. Moreover, once these two versions of AirPods 4 are released, the firm plans to end production of AirPods 3 and AirPods 2.
