Better autonomy and Dolby Atmos: the official Xbox headset is entitled to a new version

The Xbox wireless headset gets a facelift that is much more visible on the inside than on the outside. On the program for this new version: the arrival of Dolby Atmos technology, Bluetooth 5.3 and improvements on the microphone side.

Released in 2021, the official Xbox wireless headset has good arguments to make. For its price range, it is difficult to do better, and it is especially difficult to miss it when you are looking for a headset to accompany your games on Xbox. However, nothing is perfect, and Microsoft understands this. The firm has just to update its device and its new characteristics are sure to seduce.

Already, the headset is moving up a gear by becoming natively compatible with Dolby Atmos technology. While it remains to be seen what this will do in practice, this new feature should make a significant contribution to the game. Particularly in titles like the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, where the ability to hear your opponents before seeing them can be a real plus in multiplayer games.

The microphone has also been updated. Microsoft guarantees us better voice isolation, an aspect that left us wanting more during our previous test. An automatic mute option is also included, which should improve the daily life of other players, but also and above all their ears.

A more universal headset for an ecosystem that is just as universal?

The Xbox headset can be used not only with Microsoft consoles, but also with any PC, tablet or smartphone thanks to its all-new Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity. Compatibility that goes hand in hand with the ambitions of the American giant to reach a wide variety of devices.

Furthermore, in order to attract a greater number of players, Microsoft has removed the iconic green accent from the Xbox, dressing its headset only in black. This is the only real change outside the device, as if it were a visual expression of the American giant’s desire to universalize its gaming ecosystem beyond its consoles and their brand images. But, who knows? Maybe it’s just prettier that way.

With such improvements, one would expect the headset’s battery life to suffer. Not at all, according to Microsoft, which announces 20 hours of uninterrupted listening, compared to 15 hours previously. Good news which unfortunately comes with a price increase.

While the previous version was offered at 99.99 euros when it was launched, the new version is offered at 109.99 euros. Ten euros more, certainly, but that should not prevent the Xbox Wireless Headset from maintaining its good quality/price ratio.
