Black Myth Wukong, one of the most anticipated games of 2024, confirms its release date and it’s coming soon!

It was in 2020 that Chinese developer Game Science released a 13-minute pre-alpha gameplay video for what would become Black Myth: Wukongan action RPG inspired by the classic 16th-century Chinese epic, ‘Journey to the West‘. Details of the game have since been shown over the years, mostly highlighting the impressive graphics under Unreal Engine 5. Today, the developer finally confirms the release date of the title.

What is Black Myth Wukong about?

Black Myth: Wukong puts players in the shoes of an ape-like warrior inspired by Sun Wukong, the monkey king of chinese folklore. The hero will then travel the land, fighting fearsome monsters with the help of a staff, mystical powers and martial arts. The protagonist can also transform into insects and other creatures to aid in combat or reach inaccessible parts of the open world.

This promising gameplay was shown last December during The Game Awards 2023, where the release date of Black Myth was officially announced for the August 20, 2024. A date then confirmed in the new trailer that you can find at the top of the article.

The video shows off Black Myth’s enemy creatures, varied landscapes, and magical combat, while the monkey warrior discovers a golden crown apparently from Journey to the West. In the original story, Sun Wukong wore the crown as punishment for killing six thieves after being released from his 500-year imprisonment, but it’s unclear what the headband’s purpose is in this game that follows the story of the novel.
