Unlike a game like Elden Ring, Black Myth Wukong gives you a lot of choices for your skill points (aka sparks) right from the start of the game, and it only gets worse later on. Add in equipment and it can be daunting.
Respec: How to reset your sparks?
The game is generous on this point, you can simply reset all your sparks at will, from any altar. Choose the “Advancement” line then “Rekindle sparks”.
Where to place your sparks?
Let’s start by pointing out that you can easily earn several sparks right from the start of the game, by killing the enemies in the forest in a loop. They are very weak, and death has no consequences. You don’t lose anything. It is therefore possible to collect a good ten points to invest quickly.
At the very beginning of the game, we recommend investing in the following abilities, this will give you a good base for surviving and dealing damage:
Fundamentals
- 6 points in Robust constitution : Increases maximum health.
- 2 points in Apelike Agility : Reduces the Stamina cost of dodging.
- 1 point in Skillful dodge : Improves basic dodge.
Stick poses
1 point in Resolute counter-current : Allows you to perform a large stick strike during your light combo, in exchange for a concentration point (gauge at the bottom right). It will counter an enemy hit and hurt them a lot. It is also very easy to use while playing normally, and it is viable on both basic enemies and bosses. You can easily evolve this type of fight later.
Mysticism – Immobilize
- 2 points in Crash – Increases damage dealt to Immobilized targets.
- 2 points in Stagnation – Increases the duration of the next Immobilize used on the same enemy that you attacked with light attacks during the first Immobilize. This is especially useful on bosses. The trick is to immobilize them at the start of the fight, then attack them. This will allow you to recover the Immobilize during the fight, for a second immobilization.
- 1 point in Evanescence – You will have to wait a bit to unlock this ability, but it will greatly strengthen Immobilization, if you use it at the right time. That is, during an enemy attack.
Weapons, armor and trinkets
At the beginning of the game, your choices are extremely limited, so it doesn’t really matter. Purchasing the Deluxe Edition of Black Myth Wukong grants you one of each item type, which will give you a boost in the first few hours of play, but that’s about it. You can craft or find better items, starting halfway through the first chapter.
