In this guide dedicated to players who have not played Breath of the Wild, we will see how the dodge mechanic works in Zelda TotK. Not necessarily that easy to tame, it is nevertheless a weapon of mass destruction when mastered.
Zelda Breath of the Wild players, move along, there’s nothing to see here. In this guide for newcomers to Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, we’ll show you a crash course on in-game dodging and the benefits of Flurry Rush.
How to master dodging in Zelda TotK?
- First, the basics: To dodge, you must target an enemy while holding the ZL keyultimately, nothing has changed since Ocarina of Time. In this posture, press the jump key while printing the directions left or right for side jumps, or backwards for a somersault.
- When you are in a duel When facing an enemy who is more angry than average, using dodge is essential! The goal of the game will be to anticipate the type of attack he will throw at you and at what timing: vertical attack, jump to the side, horizontal attack, do a backflip.
- To master dodging : There are no miracles, we will have to go and train against targets in 1 on 1 regularly. Lynel and bosses that come out of the hands of miasmas are absolutely perfect for learning, but can be a bit tense if you are a beginner and/or have not yet mastered the gameplay (the time to adapt to the controls can be quite monstrous). The best is still to attack isolated bokoblins or moblins, as you can see in the video at the top of the article.
- Please note that there are exceptional cases. in which the only way to dodge will be to sprint, an action that is very costly in terms of endurance. We are thinking in particular of the fireballs of the lynels, or the telluric shock of the Yigas, which requires deploying the parasail in the current of hot air created by the attack.
You can’t dodge at all and don’t like the mechanic.
You may have a hard time in many situations, There are, however, valid alternatives to dodging mastery.. The most logical first, the bow and arrows: by staying at a distance at all times, no more problems in the end. Finally, we recommend that you start with Sidon, from Zora’s Domain in the main quests: his oath will generate a water shield that will absorb an attack for free. This is far from ideal, however, since at the slightest attack the protection will disappear.. Finally, your mastery of soneaus artifacts and a good battery can make the difference: Why go into battle when heavily armed robots can do it for you?
Flurry Rush and Parade
- The parade first: When you are targeting an enemy, your shield is permanently up. parry is to be released at the precise moment when the enemy blow is going to hit you, by pressing A.
- The Flurry Rush is the slow motion that occurs when you dodge an enemy attack at the right time. Be careful, the timing is different from that of the parry and it is quite complicated to read. You have to jump at the precise moment when the enemy sends his attack.
- In Flurry Rushyou will have to club Y to chain a succession of devastating attacks. We recommend that you take your most powerful weapon for this assault, you can change it along the way.
