While it is possible to completely skip some dungeons in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, the Dragon Pit proves to be particularly important for Igon’s quest to reach the Priestess of the Dragon Communion, as well as the upper part of the South Coast. It is also a mandatory step before being able to face Bayle the Dreadful.
Dragon Pit Position
The entrance to this dungeon is located southeast of the Grave Plain. You will need to cross the giant stone bridge, then follow the road south. After meeting Igon, you will be invaded by the Elder Dragonman.
Magma Dragon
The enemies in this dungeon are a bit of a pain, as you have to finish them off on the ground, unless you use holy spells to kill them. In the upper section of the area, you will encounter a Magma Dragon, a formidable mini-boss, as it will vomit lava everywhere. Be careful not to step on it. Standing behind the beast helps to avoid its blows. This enemy is immune to fire, but physical damage is very effective. It is particularly vulnerable to sleep.
Upon death, he will leave you a Dragon Heart and an Ancient Dragon Forge Stone.
Leap of Faith
The developers like to play on the players’ natural distrust of heights in Elden Ring. For some obscure reason, some steep falls that would normally be fatal are scripted, and you’ll land softly. This is the case for the Leap of Courage in the Dragon Pit.
Boss Ancient Dragon Man
As always, a boss fight awaits you, and it’s the true form of the Elder Dragonman. Since he’s a humanoid enemy, he has all the usual vulnerabilities, such as the ability to knock him to the ground.
- His large katana attacks are formidable, you must especially be wary of his combo: vertical attack followed by a rapid thrust attack.
- It can also project the weapon’s aura from a distance. Dodge sideways, or move away to avoid it.
- Finally, he will use a draconic magma dragon incantation, but you can easily interrupt it by dealing damage to him. This makes it an opportunity to attack him easily.
- Upon his death, the Elder Dragonman will leave you his Great Demon Hunter Katana.
- Do not return to the dungeon entrance after your victory, continue forward, in order to reach the second exit of the dungeon, which leads to a new area.
