While they don’t officially count as Elden Ring bosses, the Furnace Golems in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC are incredibly tough and dangerous. They also have some interesting items, and they don’t respawn. Here’s how to get rid of them more easily.
Preparations
- You can accumulate levels of Shadow Realm Blessings by searching the first area well. Then the rest of the world, before you tackle these enemies.
- A spirit summon is possible on the Furnace Golems, but their impact on the fight is almost nil. They also tend to die very quickly. You can try summoning Latenna on a safe position before engaging in combat for example.
- If you play fairly correctly, the only damage you will take will be Fire damage. Use a +2 Fire Dragon Talisman, consumables, and anti-fire spells to protect yourself from this damage.
- It’s not an option every time, but new ones Large incendiary pots are capable of dealing significant damage to Furnace Golems. We’ll detail the method a bit further down. If you have the recipes and components, consider crafting them before engaging in combat.
- Having a stash of rowan berries as a shortcut to heal Torrent easily is also advisable.
Strategy
Furnace Golems are fairly simple enemies in terms of method to adopt, but very long to kill. You have to attack their two legs until they fall to the ground. You must then approach their face and inflict a critical hit. If it can reassure you, the Golem does not seem to get up until you have inflicted the critical hit. You will normally have to knock the golem down twice to kill it. Hits on the rest of its body inflict almost no damage.
This fight is designed to be fought on the back of a mount. Indeed, to dodge the waves of fire on the ground, you have to jump at the right time with Torrent. With the double jump and a little training, it’s quite easy.
Position yourself between the two legs to avoid the punches. You can also do the opposite by positioning yourself on the outside, in order to encourage the boss to use his fists, before going to take refuge between the legs. This avoids wasting time by having to jump each time.
You can always see which leg is going to attack when it starts burning. Be careful not to stay too close, if it hits you when it lands, the physical damage inflicted will be enormous. It is better to avoid performing attacks with too long animation, otherwise you will not have time to jump with Torrent.
If both legs light up, the boss will jump. Move away, as the impact will trigger an explosion in addition to the fireball.
Blaze Golems are much more fearsome from afar, being able to launch a volley of fireballs from their feet, as well as unleash a rain of fire from their heads. They can even fire guided fireballs in some cases.
Later, you will encounter some Fire Golems whose legs are protected. You will then have to use the other methods at your disposal: attack their face directly from a high position, or by using ranged weapons. Or, throw Flaming Pots of different types into the giant basket above their head.
If there are any Messmer soldiers around the Furnace Golem, you can choose to ignore them, while favoring fleeing on horseback. The golem will kill them fairly quickly with its own waves of fire.
Large Furnace Pot Method for Indestructible Leg Golems
By picking up the recipe booksthe new giant pots, and various components, you will be able to craft new types of explosive pots. Ironically, the most fearsome ones Large Furnace Pots use components harvested from Furnace Golems upon their death, but this is not the only option. All Fire-type Great Pots are eligible.
In any case, the method is quite simple, although it cannot always be applied.
Find a high position near the Furnace Golem. Then simply throw all your pots inside his basket. He will lose about 15-20% of his health per Large incendiary pot. Be careful though, the Golem will rain fire on your position. You must move regularly, or have excellent fire protection.

In addition to a large amount of Runes, Furnace Golems will always give you the following items:
- A Furnace Face is a required component for Furnace Pots. Be careful, it is consumed upon use.
- A unique Crystal Tear for your Vial of Miraculous Salvation.
Furnace Golem Positions
There are quite a few of these monsters in the DLC. We don’t have an exhaustive list at the moment. Luckily, they are easy to find, since they are huge, and they glow in the dark. The game even displays them from several kilometers away. The difficulty is usually figuring out how to reach them in some cases.
