Starfield’s ship building and upgrading will take you hundreds of hours. The story is universal: we all go in with a very clear idea and to make a few changes, but the result is usually two or three hours moving pieces around like a madman. It’s nothing new, Bethesda has been driving its players crazy for years with base building in Starfield. Fallout 4 and 76.
The developer presentations showed us a ship builder full of possibilities, to the point of being able to create ships in the shape of animals and Transformers. The practice is much more technical, it does not allow for very crazy fantasies until well into the experience and it is not exactly cheap.
Frontier, theft and trade of ships in Starfield
It didn’t take us long to get our first ship, the Frontier. This is a pretty cute piece of junk that just about delivers when it comes to special travel and combat. I know it doesn’t look like it, but it can handle a lot of war before you need to modify it.
The first tip in this guide may seem obvious, but it is very easy to break: Don’t spend credits during the first few hours of the game, especially if you don’t have skills that unlock the best pieces. Instead, steal the ships of the Crimson Fleet (Pirates) at random landing spots that usually appear on planets or by boarding them. They are usually very good at traveling and storing, and are well equipped with weapons.
Another tip regarding stealing ships: forget about CU and Freestar ships for the first few hours of the game. They’re usually not worth it and you’re going to screw up a lot of things for it. to be enemies with them. Although if you are clear that you want to follow the path of piracy, kill and steal without limits. However, I warn you that the ship trade not worth it – it’s designed to prevent ship farming.
Construction and management of ships
All ship administration is carried out in the ports of the main locationsThere is usually a technician nearby who can repair your ship, trade ships (buy and sell) and make modifications. We are interested in this last section. Within it we can improve current parts and replace parts with an extremely detailed manager.
- StatisticsThe most important thing is the bottom bar of the menu, which shows the statistics of our ship and which are updated with each part we add and remove. There is no winning combination of numbers. They will depend on the type of ship we want to build.
- Brands and classes. All pieces have markings (Nova Galactic, for example), different aesthetics and shapes, and classes (A, B, C…). The most relevant section is the last one. Everything revolves around the generator and the engine. Their class determines the class of the pieces we can add. If the generator is Class A, we cannot add a Class C shield. In addition, each main location and faction (New Atlantica, Akira, Neon…) has its own style of pieces and ship architecture.
- Errors and warnings. Ship building in Starfield isn’t exactly the paradise of freedom we’ve been shown. There are certain conditions that your ship must meet in order to be functional. Errors are mandatory structural requirements, while Notices are technical suggestions to improve the ship’s efficiency. They’re usually related to weapon allocation and mobility. The more complex and larger the ship, the more problems.
- Armament. Weapons are divided into three types: ballistic, laser and electromagnetic, which deal damage to the ship’s hull, shields and systems respectively. On the other hand, rockets or missiles deal massive damage. These parts must also meet the ship’s Class requirements.
Upgrading parts and the ship in general relies heavily on economy and the skills of the Technology branchbut you don’t necessarily have to take that path to have a top ship. If you choose any other path that gets a lot of money (bounty hunter, miner, explorer…) you can Buy ships with quality parts superior.
Finally, the crew It is an ideal complement to enhance different systems of the ship. If you are thinking of enhancing this aspect, then I recommend having the Foreman trait: “The crew repairs the system of a ship that drops below 50% health, but in exchange it costs twice as much to hire the crew.“And how do you manage your crew? Through the ship menu, located in the lower left area of the character menu.
The positive part of the crew is that They don’t necessarily have to be your colleagues travel. That is, you can play solo and keep your allies on the ship. While potential traveling companions are available to assign to the systems they dominate, the rest of the crew usually wander around the spaceports looking for work. The latter must be given a job. one-time payment when hiring them. Remember to build room modules on the ship!
