Getting to your destination in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is complicated, and the Religious Quarter is certainly one of the most complex areas, since it serves as a connecting point between several different areas, with elevators, as well as water to empty, before being able to explore the rest of the area. This should bring back some memories for veterans of Dark Souls 1.
How to reach the Religious Quarter?
Although it is technically in the Black Castle, the Religious Quarter is completely separate from the rest of the dungeon. It is possible to jump from the Religious Quarter to the rest of the area, but not the other way around, it is one-way. There is unfortunately no shortcut unlocked either.
Your only option is to follow our route, passing through Altus Occulte and Bonny Village, before making the big detour via the road to the east of the map, before heading back up north. The road will then take you to the Religious Quarter. After a very long corridor, you will reach its site of Vanished Grace.
How to evacuate water from the Religious Quarter?
Let’s start by specifying that it is better to explore the left section of the area, before going to empty the water. The reason being the disappearance of the floating trunks, which serve as platforms to reach certain objects. It will be too late to return there afterwards.
You can see the exact path to follow in the video below. It was made after draining the water, but it doesn’t change anything about the obstacles or the route. Jump on the roofs and collapsed walls until you can go down inside the collapsed church, via the holes in the roof. Reach the outer ramparts, killing the bats. You just have to activate the valve, after reaching the end of the area.
After draining the water, you will be able to go down to the streets of the district, with giant crabs and 2 Rotten Tree Spirits preparing to jump on you. This will help you reach new areas.
Notable elements of the religious quarter
- By taking one of the church elevators (without needing to drain the water), you can access the Black Castle Seed Warehouse storage area, an otherwise inaccessible area. This section provides access to the roof beams, then the back door, with the statue of Marika and Commander Gaius, among others.
- A Splinter of the Occult Tree can be picked up from a statue. It is best to drain the water before picking it up, so a fall will not be fatal.
- After falling out of the hole in the roof, you will find the Prayer Room and Queelign.
- One of the Tree Spirits will leave you an Iris of Occultation.
- By passing through the cathedral full of explosive monsters, you can access the passage leading to the Avatar of the Occult Tree.
