In recent years, we have seen how many manufacturers have begun to bet on virtual and augmented reality headsets, better known as mixed reality, however, not all proposals on the market have had the success they expected.
Microsoft tried it with Hololensmixed reality glasses focused on the business world and which it completely abandoned in mid-2024. The bet of the VisionPro from Apple, due to its high price, $3,499 for the base model, its high price has not had the expected success either.
If companies want mixed reality to be a reality (pun intended), these devices need to be more affordable. The only company that seems to have understood how to bring virtual and augmented reality to a greater number of users is the Goalthe company behind WhatsApp, instagram and Facebook among others.
Meta bought the virtual reality device company Oculus VR (created by John Carmak whom we all don’t know from the company ID Software, creator of DOOM, Wolfenstein and others). With Carmak separated from the company, the company launched the Meta Quest line of glasses, a range of glasses that is currently available in two versions: Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S with very different prices. While the Meta Quest 3 has a price of 549 euros, the Meta Quest 3S only costs 329 euros.
Best virtual reality glasses: Meta Quest 3S
The Meta Quest 3S are managed by the same processor as the Meta Quest 3, the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 from Qualcomm, so both can run games with the same performance. In addition to sharing the processorthey also share the amount of RAM memory: 8 GB total and basic storage options: 128 GB.
The control knobs are also the same. The autonomy of this new model is greater than the Meta Quest 3, achieving up to 2.5 hours of use, despite having a lower capacity battery. This is mainly due to the main difference that we enter into both models.
We are talking about the screens, the most important part of the virtual reality glasses. The screens that the Meta Quest 3S incorporates have a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, offer a maximum resolution of 1832 x 1920 with a field of view of 96º horizontally and 90º vertically.
The Meta Quest 3 screens also have a refresh rate of 120 Hz per screen, but have a higher resolution, 2064×2208 with a field of view of 110º horizontally and 96 degrees vertically.
In addition, we can connect them to our PC to enjoy the VR games that are available on Steamalthough we can use them independently as we mentioned in the previous paragraph through the Meta store.
For 329 euros on the market we will not find any other virtual reality glasses that offer better performance than the Meta Quest 3S. The only rival that, in terms of price, can come close to it are the Peak 4 which cost 599 euros, 50 euros more expensive than the Meta Quest 3.
