While not the hardest game of its kind, Black Myth: Wukong is no joke. The Forest of Wolves contains two powerful bosses, who may kill you several times before you finish them, but that’s normal. Be aware, however, that Guangzhi is easier than the Wandering Spectre.
Preparations
- This is the very beginning of the game, your options are by design very limited at the moment, but you are not completely caught off guard. To start, it is very easy to win about ten levels in the Wolf Forest by killing all the enemies present, before going to rest at the nearest Altar. This can allow you to adopt our starter Build for example. This will already make your life much easier.
- If you’re really desperate and haven’t already, the Deluxe Edition of Wukong includes slightly better starting equipment than the base one. It’s not overwhelming, and after a few hours of play it doesn’t have any impact, but it’s still a nice boost.
Fight
- Your best ally in this fight is the Immobilization spellespecially if you have upgraded it. Use it early in the fight, when you enter melee range, to deal a big combo of attacks to the boss. Repeat this whenever possible.
- It’s hard to dodge all of the boss’s combos, it takes practice. If nothing else, you can dodge backwards, and keep your distance to be out of range, until Guangzhi stops. You’ll then have an attack opportunity.
- Don’t think you’re safe from a distance though, Guangzhi has several ranged attacks. This includes throwing his staff, as well as several successive charges across the area. There’s no magic bullet, you have to learn to dodge sideways at the right time. You can sometimes take cover behind one of the rocks in the area, but this depends greatly on the boss’s initial position.
- If you are afflicted by the flames, perform 3 dodges as quickly as possible, in order to extinguish them.
Reward
In addition to the experience and willpower gained, you will unlock a new power, Transformation. You only have one form at the moment, the Burning Stream. It allows you to transform into Guangzhi for a short period of time, with a dedicated life bar. This will greatly help you kill the Wandering Spectre of the forest.
Remember to ring the bell at the back of the area before you leave. This will come in handy later by giving you access to the (not so) secret area.
