The Sonic Chili Dog: a recipe with history
Sonic likes Chili Dogs, and that’s canon in both the video games and the TV series and Paramount movies. In fact, the special birthday present his friends prepare for him in Sonic Generations is a huge, special version presented with a bow. But that wasn’t always the case.
The origin of Sonic’s obsession with Chili Dogs dates back to the paperback adventures of the SEGA standard-bearer when they were published by Archie Comics. Specifically, from the first issue of Sonic the Hedgehog where, as a bonus, the hedgehog himself shared his own secret recipe.
Over the years we’ve seen different variations of the same recipe, in different adaptations and video games. In Sonic Unleashed, for example, the ingredients of the Chili Dog depend on the location of Don Fachio. However, the original recipe from the comics is still the most widespread and, we won’t deny it, it’s delicious.

- Once the meat and ingredients are perfectly mixed, add the tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, the crushed tomatoes (the ones sold in a can are perfect), the barbecue sauce of your choice and leave it on medium-high heat for approximately half an hour.
- After the time has passed, add the teaspoon of chili powder, cumin, oregano and red beans (preferably drained) to the pan and cook over low heat for an hour.
How to make the Chili Dog a la Sonic
