How to make Spaghetti Carbonara Ken Masters style

Ken Masters’ specialty isn’t spinning kicks or Dragon Punches, it’s cooking pasta. He’s written about it in every single instruction manual he’s appeared in since Street Fighter II, and today we’re going to show you how to make his signature dish: Spaghetti carbonara…Both in Street Fighter 6 and at home!

Pasta in the Street Fighter universe

Capcom hasn’t given any explanation as to why Ken loves pasta, but let’s face it: no recipe as exquisite as spaghetti needs something like that. What we do know is that in the character sheets This dish of Italian origin has always been present and little by little he joined the family and Skateboarding, but also something he didn’t like: the Umeboshi!

For context, spaghetti is a cousin of the noodles used in Japan for ramen, for example. It is worth remembering that Ken spent his youth there with Ryu training under the tutelage of Gouken, so it makes perfect sense that the creation of alternatives to the more traditional dishes fits with his character and ends up being reflected in his way of giving personality to his fighting style based on traditional arts with more modern twists.

In any case, Ken loves cooking pasta in general and, knowing him, he loves to experiment to enhance its flavour and give it a personal touch. Something that would probably drive the most traditional Italians crazy about cooking. Luckily, on the World Tour of Street Fighter 6 It is possible to travel to the Colosseum in Rome and order the authentic Spaghetti Carbonara along with other local delicacies. It is the star dish of the selection.

From here on, there is technically an official recipe for Ken’s spaghetti: in the book The Official Street Fighter Cookbook by Victoria Rosenthal, the same author who left us Nuka Cola, she gives a special touch to the traditional recipe (which you can find here in DAP) and, most importantly, the book is officially licensed by Capcom. What do I need to prepare them?

Spaghetti carbonara

Difficulty: 4 / 5

For 4 people

Consume on the same day

Elaboration: 45 minutes

Total time: 45 minutes

Along with the ingredients we will need a large pot filled with water for pasta and other mixing bowls that you will have on hand in your kitchen. It is worth bearing in mind that we may prefer to prepare the pasta ourselves rather than using any ready-made one, which gives an even more personal touch to the result.

However, we wanted to reward simplicity without neglecting the details, since, as you will see, the process is only a little more elaborate than that of Sonic’s Chili Dogs. But don’t worry, preparing pasta is simple and, for a whole generation of university students, the welcome daily sustenance.

Preparing pasta with Carbonara sauce

  1. Heat the water over high heat in a pot large enough to cover the half kilo of pasta. Once it starts to boil, add the salt.
  2. Meanwhile, in a medium bowlcombine the egg yolks, egg, miso, half of the pecorino, half of the romano cheese, and black pepper. Mix everything together until thoroughly combined.
  3. Even if you have finished mixing, Let the pasta cook until al dente. Once ready, drain the pasta but leave some water in the pot. At least two cups: we’re going to use them for Ken Masters’ secret ingredient!
  4. Heat a pot over medium heat. Add the duck fat and allow it to melt. Then add the duck bacon and allow it to cook until crispy, which should take less than 10 minutes. Then add the garlic and allow it to cook for another 2 minutes.
  5. Add 1 (one) cup of pasta water and bring to a boil. Stir until the water begins to reduce, then add the drained pasta and stir to prevent it from sticking together.
  6. Remove the pot from the heat and continue stirring. This part of the process is key: take the egg and cheese mixture and mix it carefully while continuing to stir constantly so that the eggs come out well and continue until the sauce takes on a good color. Then add the remaining unused cheeses.
  7. Extra tip: If the sauce is too thick, we use the reserved water to try to dilute the sauce. However, we must use controlled portions so that it does not become too watery. To make it the way we like it, we taste it and add more pepper and cheese if necessary to make it perfect.

How to serve Spaghetti Ken Masters style

  1. With the pasta prepared and just the way we like it, We prepare a bowl with nori (the one used for sushi), white sesame seeds, black sesame seeds and chopped spring onion and mix it together.
  2. Once seated at the tableWhen serving each plate of pasta, top it with a poached egg and sprinkle with the freshly made nori and sesame mixture.
  3. Optional: Although the sauce has a wonderful flavor, it is always good to leave a little grated cheese or sauces to suit the diners’ taste.

More sensational Street Fighter recipes!

Although we have introduced some minor changes to the recipe and preparation of Victoria Rosenthal (we have replaced the parmesan cheese with pecorino, as in the game) the reality is that even though each person makes spaghetti carbonara as they are taught at home, the preparation and the distinction of being the official recipe goes to the author and must be perfectly accredited in a book that, in addition, dares to turn Ryu’s Hadoukens into a refreshing summer drink.

A book that, despite being in English, will fascinate fans of Street Fighters who are more into cooking. Like El Fuerte, E. Honda or Ken Masters himself.
