How to reset a character’s level in The First Descendant

The First Descendant has many powerful characters to unlock, but reaching max level doesn’t have to mean the end of your adventure with your Legatee, as you can reset their rank to start progressing again.

This system works similar to the Prestige feature in Call of Duty, except you keep all your weapons and skills. But, if you want to get the best build on a character and unlock their maximum potential, it’s absolutely essential.

So here’s how to reset your character to level 1 in The First Descendant.

You will need to use a Crystallization Catalyst on any Module Slot to activate the Prestige in The First Descendant. However, this option is only available once you have reached Mastery Level 7.

Doing this will reset the Legatee’s level to Rank 1, but in return, it will halve the capacity cost of all Modules that fall under your chosen Module Slot Type.

Here is a step-by-step guide:

  1. Open the main menu.
  2. Select the “Inventory” tab.
  3. Click on “Legatee Module”.
  4. Select “Additional module settings”.
  5. Click “Assign module chassis type”.
  6. Choose the slot you want to upgrade and the type you want to assign it.
  7. Finish by selecting “Apply Socket Type” to use your Crystallization Catalyst.

Resetting your rank is vital if you want to improve your build.

Once this is done, the capacity used by any Module in that slot matching the type you selected in step six will be reduced by half. This is indicated by the symbol visible in the center of the Module Slot.

Importantly, this can also be done to your weapons, again reducing the capacity of some Mods but resetting the weapon’s rank to the start.

The advantage is that you will be able to upgrade your modules to significantly increase the bonuses they offer. Once you use a Crystallization Catalyst on multiple Slots of the same character, you will find that you can achieve incredibly powerful builds that would otherwise be impossible due to the capacity limit.

You can obtain a Crystallization Catalyst by searching for it from Anaïs or receiving it as a random reward. However, the chances of obtaining it as loot are very low, so we recommend opting for research to guarantee obtaining this essential item.

To search for it, find Anaïs in Albion and go to the Upgrade Materials section of the menu, where you will need the following items:

  • 187,500 Gold
  • 8x Troubled Energy Residue
  • 22x Macromolecular Biogel
  • 8x Mixed Energy Residue
  • 18x Advanced Neural Circuit
  • Crystallization Catalyst Scheme

You can search for this item by going to Anaïs.

Fortunately, all of these resources can be farmed quite easily, as they mostly require defeating specific enemies in certain areas. According to the in-game research request menu, it will take approximately seven and a half hours to obtain all the materials needed to craft one.

Of course, Prestige and resetting a character’s rank are completely optional, they are only recommended if you want to fully optimize your build.
