Even after doing the Elden Ring quests, the new quests in Shadow of the Erdtree still feel strange. It’s often hard to figure out what you need to do to unlock what’s next. This is especially true for Igon’s quests; even in practice, his quest is pretty straightforward, at least in terms of structure. It involves defeating one of the most formidable bosses in the expansion.
Igon’s initial position, and what to do?
Igon is located east of the Plain of Sepulchre. Cross the large stone bridge, then follow the road south. One road leads to Thiollier, the other to Igon, who will be squealing like a pig being slaughtered. He has collapsed on the road and his words are quite incoherent. He curses a certain Bayle, while writhing in pain. Talking to him leads nowhere either.
You can’t do anything with Igon at the moment. Progress in his quest is tied to your progress in the area.
Ancient Dragonman and Dragon Pit
As you continue south, you will be invaded by the Ancient Dragonman, a red specter equipped with a special katana, and using dragon breaths.
After defeating him, you will reach the entrance to the Dragon Pit dungeon. You must cross it and defeat its boss, the real Ancient Dragonman, in order to reach the exit leading directly to a new area: the Dragonblight.
This fairly linear area is divided into two paths, one leading to the South, and the other to the East, towards the jagged peak. On the road, you will come across a message from Igon, but also several dragons that you will have to kill. You should take a turn to the South, in order to meet the Priestess of the Draconic Communionshe has a quest for you, and her goal is almost identical to Igon’s.
It’s best to collect the South Coast and Abyss map fragments before progressing further. This will give you a clearer view, but also give you the power to take on the challenges that await you.
Dragons of the Jagged Peak
You will encounter several copies of this recycled enemy. It is almost identical to a normal dragon like Agheel, but with the ability to trigger lightning strikes on occasion. You will need to kill one after entering the Dragonblight area.
After crossing a huge suspension bridge, you will encounter two dragons fighting, and a boss health bar will appear. Kill these stupid lizards to unlock the sequel.
Igon’s Revenge
When both dragons are dead, Igon will laugh and applaud you. He is on the road a little further. When talking to him, he seems a little more lucid this time. As a former dragon warrior, he wants revenge on Bayle who seriously injured him in the past. But he is now too weak to achieve it. So he asks for your help.
He gives you one of his fingers, so that you can call upon him, against the oldest and most terrible of dragons: Bayle.
Reach Bayle
There is only one path to the Broken Peak, you should not get lost. However, it is exceptionally steep. You will also have to kill Senessax the Elder Dragon on your way. Then take a series of Spiritual Sources with Torrent.
As expected, Bayle is located in the center of Broken Peak, which looks like a huge volcano on the map.
Kill Bayle with Igon
To complete Igon’s quest, it’s not enough to kill Bayle, who is one of the most formidable bosses in the game. You also have to do it with Igon alive, preferably. Use Igon’s golden mark, which is located in the boss’s arena, to summon him. Needless to say, it’s a dangerous exercise, since you’ll have to activate it between two dodges.
We haven’t been able to confirm all the outcomes and variants of this quest yet, but you should know that keeping Igon alive is difficult, unless you kill Bayle very quickly. On the other hand, he should deal some damage to the boss, in addition to attracting his attention. He also doesn’t seem to increase his health amount.
Awards
After killing Bayle, Igon rejoices that he has finally gotten his revenge. At least, if he is alive. All you have to do now is return to his previous position on the map. You will find his corpse, and more importantly: his equipment. This includes his giant bow, his cinerary pearl and his armor set.
