Matter Labs Announces ZKsync 3.0 Roadmap, Reveals “Elastic Chain” Competing with Polygon’s AggLayer

Matter Labs, the main development company behind the ZKsync layer 2 network, has introduced a new roadmap called ZKsync 3.0, aimed at enhancing ecosystem connectivity even further – including a new “Elastic Chain” somewhat similar to Rival Polygon’s AggLayer launched earlier this year.

The core of ZKsync “3.0” is the v24 upgrade, released on June 7, which turns “ZKsync from a single ZK chain to an Elastic Chain”.

Elastic Chain includes multiple chains in the ZKsync ecosystem, but will give users the feeling of using a single chain.

Last year, Matter Labs released ZK Stack – a toolkit that allows developers to build their own blockchain on top of ZKsync technology. Essentially, all of these custom chains will be connected to each other via Elastic Chain.

“Elastic Chain is an infinitely scalable network of ZK chains (rollup, validation, and customization), mathematically secured, and seamlessly interoperable under a unified visual UX,” Matter Labs wrote. .

This concept is part of a new trend in blockchain that aims to make interoperability in different ecosystems more seamless for users.

According to Matter Labs, the new Elastic Chain will consist of three core components.

The first component includes “Native Token Vault” and “Shared Router”, which are the core of the network.

“Deployed as a series of smart contracts on Ethereum, these components are responsible for managing the state of the network, handling chain registration.”

The second component is ZK Gateway – a middleware that connects the Ethereum blockchain with ZKsync’s ZK chain, allowing interoperability between different chains in the ZKsync ecosystem.

“The core components come together to ensure that ZK chains can interact and transact with each other efficiently, inheriting the security of Ethereum and forming a horizontally scalable network without compromising the core properties that make public blockchains so powerful.”
