Unlike Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree is incredibly poor in merchants. However, many characters are introduced, each tied to a quest that is more or less difficult to complete. In addition to being profitable, these quests also have unexpected repercussions later on. Here’s everything you need to know about Moore, who in addition to being one of Miquella’s followers, has a gleaning swarm, insects previously linked to the Scarlet Rot.
Moore’s initial position and delivery
The adventure begins in the Sepulchral Plain. By speaking several times to Moore in front of Belurat Dungeon, and by buying something from him, he should get a few more lines. He should ask you to hand over a vial of Black liquor to Thiollier once you have discovered the latter, at the other end of the area.
Thiollier is located in an isolated area, Southeast of the large stone bridge. He sits next to a Miquella Cross, making him easy to spot. Thiollier sells various poison-related items, but you don’t need to buy anything from him.
Gathering Cloud
Moore obtains his items with the assistance of a group of insectoid monsters that should be very, if not too, familiar to you, since you’ve probably already encountered them in the Caelid region, as well as in the Lake of Rot, among other places. But Moore’s are friendly, they should not be killed for now. Talk to him to get a crafting manual, and materials. Here is a list of these insects, with their locations. Please note that Killing one of these insects will cause Moore’s invasion.
Sleeping insect
The fourth insect in the gathering swarm is asleep, it must be healed in order to help it recover. You can use an area healing spell, or a consumable like the heat stone. Reload the area, and you will be able to talk to it.
Go talk to Moore afterwards, he will give you a recipe book as a thank you.
We have not yet been able to confirm all interactions between Moore and the Gathering Swarm. It seems that attacking or killing them can damage your relationship with Moore, but this remains to be confirmed.
Turn the page, stay sad forever, or say nothing?
As you approach the Black Castle, north of Occult Altus, a message will warn you that Miquella’s Major Rune is broken. The enchantment that bound the companions is then dispelled. Moore feels abandoned by Miquella, and he asks you what attitude he should have in the future. You can choose between three answers to give to Moore.
- If you Tell Moore to turn the pagehe will be part of Leda’s team at the end of the game (see below) which allows you to obtain his equipment. This nevertheless has the drawback of making this fight more difficult.
- Him say to stay sad forever will later respawn him, dead, in the same position as the wounded insect in the swarm (see above). All of his equipment can then be obtained directly. This is the optimal choice for an easier continuation, as well as for obtaining his equipment quickly.
In any case Moore eventually disappears by reloading the area.
Boss Leda and her allies
Moore has no further role to play in the story until near the very end. After defeating Messmer and opening the Shadow Tower, Leda will realize that you were never an ally of Miquella, quite the opposite. A formidable fight awaits you, with Leda, Dane, and all the other default companions on one side, which makes it absolutely brutal by default. But by completing the companion quests, you can rally them to your cause in certain cases. At the moment, we do not know if it is possible to rally Moore to our cause. By default, he is one of the worst attackers, since he is extremely durable. His shield bashes are devastating, and he throws Giant Pots of Rot from a distance.
Moore’s Death and Equipment
After killing Moore and his allies, his corpse will spawn nearby. You will be free to pick up his Great Shield, Cinerary Pearl, and Heavy Armor, which rivals the best armor in the game. You get the same items if you tell him to stay sad forever.
