Polkadot co-founder Rob Habermeier proposed Plazaa new system chain designed to unify parachain functions and enhance network scalability.
Rob Habermeier – Co-founder of Polkadot
According to Habermeier, the current distribution of functionality across multiple chains creates challenges for users and developers, leading to fragmentation and scalability limitations. He is advocating a strategic focus on usability by building a consistent system with scaling features.
Plaza will integrate various parachain features into a single chain, benefiting users, developers, liquidity providers, and decentralized applications (dApps). The proposed solution will include several features such as asset issuance, smart contracts, staking, bridging, and near-zero fees.
Chain will grow from the existing AssetHub, which already supports asset wallets, bridges, and tool integrations.
With Polkadot’s upcoming Elastic Scaling feature, Habermeier believes that consolidating functions into a single chain will be beneficial. He stated that if approved, Plaza would streamline interactions on the Polkadot network, allowing developers to focus on scalability.
“We should work together as an ecosystem to build a comprehensive blockchain platform that has all the necessary components, and only when the platform reaches its limit should we release capacity by developing Develop applications, users, and system functions. Polkadot has the core to support all of this at a scale that suits the world’s needs. The city needs to develop from the center to the suburbs, and that center should be the Plaza.”
He also mentioned that Plaza may incorporate Polkadot’s governance and identity functions in the future but acknowledged that while the new chain may temporarily impact other chains, it will ultimately drive expansion Furthermore, the Polkadot network.
“I see that this will be the New York, Dubai, London or Shenzhen of the Polkadot continent, the first of a series of megacities and a precursor to greater expansion. We can deploy this plan with enthusiasm, knowing that when Plaza is saturated, Polkadot (or JAM) has the computing power needed for that expansion.”
