Solana Foundation Launches New Feature to Bring “Crypto” Back to “Crypto Twitter”

Non-profit organization Solana Foundation, in an effort to make blockchain transactions more seamless and intuitive, and bring “crypto” back to “Crypto Twitter”, announced the launch of Solana Actions (transaction translation) and Solana Blinks (blockchain link) on Tuesday.

The new features will allow users to connect and send transactions without having to leave the website they are on. By using Actions and Blinks, Solana Foundation claims that any website that can display a URL can be used with the new features.

Jon Wong, head of engineering at the Solana Foundation, shared:

“Part of our role at the Solana Foundation on the technical side is to explore some product principles and outline a one- to three-year vision. Blockchain faces a significant problem, which is being confined to a small corner of the internet. Every activity you ever do online has to be crypto-aware, but this process is often cumbersome. For example, some discussion forums require participants to use a specific crypto wallet.”

The first time a wallet tries to retrieve a transaction from an unknown API, Wong said, users will see the familiar “connect to website” prompt, noting whether the website’s domain has previously been connected to a wallet or not, it is more likely to be trustworthy.

Actions and Blinks are similar to connecting a wallet to a decentralized application (dapp).

“Trust the dApps you know and use the same way you trust the websites you know and use.”

In addition to website and social media transactions, Solana Foundation said, developers can also create physical QR codes. At launch, the Phantom, Backpack, and Dialect wallet extensions will only display registered or “trusted” Actions URLs on Twitter.

“So blockchain becomes the universal database for all these different actions. It’s really easy to do these across a variety of services, including Telegram and WhatsApp or Slack or whatever service you want to build that can recognize these links.”

Solana Actions and Blinks are the latest blockchain projects in a long time that aim to make cryptocurrency closer to the community. Other projects that enable social trading include Bitcoin Tips and Mask Network.

Partners participating in the launch of Solana Actions and Blinks include Cubik, Sanctum, Tensor, Realms, Access, Jupiter, Helium, Truffle, Phantom, Backpack and Solana-based alert application developer Dialect.

According to Wong, in future iterations of Solana Actions and Blinks, wallets may have a feature that allows them to “infer” trustworthiness based on whether the site has been used before.
