One of the first mysteries of Once Human players concerns three elements that are obvious in most other games: character creation, character deletion and changing servers. If it’s not clear here, that’s completely normal: things are a little different from the norm in this area! In this guide we explain in detail how to change servers, if you can create several characters but also delete them… and especially under what conditions!
Can you change servers or create multiple characters in Once Human?
If you’re reading this after creating your first character, rest assured: Once Human does indeed allow you to change servers and even create multiple characters on multiple different servers. In fact, the original NetEase game was not intended to allow these features before the end of August 2024, but due to the many negative reviews from the community published on this subject after the game’s deployment on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, the developers changed their minds.
So, Once Human’s Official FAQ now indicates that it is indeed possible to create characters on any server, something confirmed once they arrive in the game. For the moment deployed “urgently” despite its instability, this functionality is planned to be updated and reworked with an update planned for Thursday, August 1, 2024.
To change servers, simply go to the Once Human homepage and click on the name of the server you are currently on, above “Join Game”. After that, select the type of server you are looking for, Mainbus to have access only to the game’s PvE content, The Call of Evolution for those who would also like to experience PvP, then select the server of your choice.
All you have to do is press F (default key) to confirm your choice and create your new character on this server: you then restart from scratch without losing your progress on the other character(s) you already have. Be careful though: you can only create one character per server for the moment, be careful not to progress too quickly without your possible friends if you choose to progress together!
Can you delete your character in Once Human?
This point, much requested by players who started their progression ahead of their fellow players, is similar to the one mentioned previously. Indeed, in Once Human it is not possible, at the time of the game deployment at least, to delete a character: once a character exists, nothing can be done to remove it from your account.
This very particular choice of the editor may seem trivial and of no interest to players, except that not at all in reality since if you progress with a given character in Once Human then you will simply no longer be able to go back in order to join your potentially lagging playmates. And since you can only create one character per server, it is better to greatly anticipate what you intend to do alone because your friends are absent!
Ideally, if you want to play in a group, we strongly recommend that you create a character dedicated exclusively to your multiplayer gaming sessions on a server shared by all your fellow players, and another on a completely different server with which you will evolve at your own pace without having to wait for your friends.
