After testing its game recording functionality this summer, the Valve teams are deploying this new function for all of its users.

Easy and practical

The least we can say is that Steam has pulled out all the stops for its new function. Beyond being a simple screen recording tool, Steam allows you to record, but also cut different extracts to keep only the best of your games.

By going to your settings, you will discover a new tab called “Reg. From there several options are available to you:

  • The choice not to record your games.
  • Doing it automatically by Steam: in which case, the platform tells you by default that it will only keep the last 120 minutes of video when launching your game. You can modify this limit and see the resources that this will consume for your PC.
  • Doing it manually via a keyboard shortcut: you then find yourself with an unlimited recording that it will be up to you to cut.

Once registered, you can modify your extracts directly on Steam using tags that you can add manually during your registration or automatic tags that seem to be attached to Steam trophies: practical!

Steam specifies that this feature is compatible with all games as long as they can run the overlay Steam. Once your extracts have been exported, they can be stored on your PC or sent to your smartphone via the Steam application. The Valve teams have also thought about Steam Deck owners who can benefit from this option on the same terms.
