Like almost every chapter in Black Myth: Wukong, Chapter 5 has its own secret area, although it unfortunately doesn’t contain any artifacts. The actions to take to access it are quite different from those of previous secret areas, and they are not always very intuitive. Here are the steps to follow.
Sturdy Pale Axe
The first step is to face the first pseudo-boss of the chapter, Sturdy Pale Axe. A rather violent bull, and above all very stupid. Instead of dying, he falls to his knees, while you finish off the other enemies in the area. He then comes to his senses, before explaining the situation to you. Your next objective is to destroy the first 4 elemental carts.
Element carts
Good news, the first 3 carts are mandatory to progress in the area. So we won’t dwell on them. The first of them is the most painful if you handle the situation badly. Climb the stairs on the right, then the platform, so you can jump behind him. Since he can’t pivot, this turns an unbearable fight into an easy victory.
The cart we’re interested in is the gold one, which is stuck in the lava at the bottom of the cavern. As always, your horse friend is stuck inside. Shoot the whip at head level several times, but that won’t accomplish anything for now.
Come back and shoot it, once you have beaten the other carts and defeated the boss Burning Mountain Guardian and Yin-Yang Fish. You should normally be able to remove the whip and unlock the transformation into a horse. If you still can’t remove it, continue your progress through the area, before returning later.
Return to Sturdy Pale Axe
Your Taurus friend should now have changed position. You can now find him halfway between the Emerald Hall, and Ashen Pass Altar 3.
Pass the Giant Metal Sphere
The next step is to travel the long mountain path, while dodging the huge metal sphere that is going back and forth on it. The principle is simple, just hide in the alcoves on the sides, before it has time to come back and turn you into monkey hash.
Your goal is to trigger the cutscene where your boar friend confronts the sphere, before falling into the void with it.
Take the new passage
Rather than continuing forward, which would result in the chapter’s final boss fight, turn around. With the Giant Sphere eliminated and the flames extinguished, a new passage has been opened along the corridor you just traveled through.
Following this path, you will encounter a new boss, the Flint Vanguard. An optional boss can also be summoned a little further on, but that is not the subject of this guide. Continue on your path until you reach the last cart of elements, the Rusty Gold Cartwhich is also the most fearsome. After chewing on the bull during a cutscene, it immediately attacks you.
After your victory, talk to the bull, then interact with the ice door, in order to open access.
In the cave that follows, do not approach the large pillar immediately, take a detour to the left, to kill a frog mini-boss, if you wish. As you approach the pillar, you will be automatically teleported to the secret area.
Secret Area: Bishui Cave
This map contains a meditation spot on the right, some enemies and chests, and two bosses. The first is none other than the true form of the Giant Metal Sphere: a duo composed of Top Down and Bottom Up.
The second boss is none other than the Bull King’s mount, the Golden Eyed Beast Bishuiwhich is a tough fight. Plan for fire resistance, if possible.
Upon defeating the beast, you will be treated to a cutscene that will give you more context and information about the chapter’s final boss, the Red Boy. It is still difficult to understand, however, without having more context about Chinese mythology and its particular culture. There are no relics unlocked at the moment, but the materials obtained from the beast can be used to forge an interesting weapon and armor.
Completing this secret area is also one of the prerequisites for the hidden boss at the end of the game.
