The Depths Zelda Tears of the Kingdom: Map, Genie Statue, Abandoned Mine… Everything About the Dark World

This famous third map is a bit of a risk for Zelda Tears of the Kingdom and Nintendo when you think about it: when you travel through the first regions of the zone, you immediately think of a poisoned swamp that only Miyazaki knows the secret to, but spread over several dozen kilometers. You’re going to have to spend some time there if you plan on progressing your gear.

Depths of the Earth: How does the dark world of Zelda TotK work?

Introduced very quickly after you set foot on land following the Sky Island tutorial of the Prelude, the Depths are a set of new areas placed directly under Hyrule. A sort of cursed mirror of the surface, there reigns perpetual darkness that you will have to dispel little by little thanks to the dozens of roots scattered in the miasmatic desert. Who says new map, says new set of activities, which we will present to you in detail in the rest of the article.. It’s not a very welcoming area and down here, all the monsters do miasma damage, which eats away at your hearts, so you’ll have to make the most of the soneau artifacts and build yourself vehicles capable of covering a lot of ground.

How to progress well in the Depths?

  • Soneaus artifacts and good construction plans will greatly improve your exploration conditions.
  • You need a good pack of lumos seedswhich can easily be found in caves on the surface of Hyrule.
  • Radiant Flower recipes to quickly heal hearts affected by miasma. These will be automatically healed when a new root is discovered.
  • Good weapons to quickly finish off the violent monsters that are hanging around. It is not uncommon to come across bosses.

How to find roots easily?

Finding the roots is much less simple than finding the sanctuaries, available on the surface with a large ray of green light and it is even possible to activate a special detector to find them easily. In the depths, the map is plunged into total darkness and with the topography of the placesmanaging to find these orange points of light can quickly turn into a nightmare. However, there is a very very practical trick that allows you to locate sanctuaries and roots. It’s a small exploration spoiler, but it will greatly help you progress.

How to find abandoned mines easily?

On the same principle, the villages of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom also find an echo in the depths with the famous abandoned mines: Each of these deep buildings is placed directly under a village, with the exception of Euzérowhich is quite normal, since it is a brand new village that Link helped build in Zelda Breath of the Wild’s A Booming Business. You still have to find the associated chasms, though, and that’s potentially another story.

The search for abysses and secret accesses

There are a huge number of entry points to the depths and finding these access points can be quite time consuming. The thing is, some chasms aren’t marked on the map, so they can take other forms, like chasms in wells, or directly from caves… Once you’ve found all the roots, the depth map will no longer hold any secrets for you, but to find some of them, you’ll necessarily have to look for these rarer entrances. On the other side of the mirror, there are the pillars of the depths, which just leave enough room for Link to Infiltrate so he can reach the surface. This is how you can access the famous Korogu Forest

Old treasure maps and legendary outfits

This is a junction between the sky map and the deep one: while exploring the celestial islands, you will regularly come across old treasure maps that will mark a place in the dark world in yellow. By going there, you will put simply the hand on the equipment of the generations of Link which preceded that of the Link of the Zelda Switch. There are a good number of outfits to collect and while they may not be very interesting from a statistical point of view, They allow you to look like your favorite Link. Finally, you don’t necessarily need to find the old map to get the treasure, you just have to look where they are on the interactive map.

Yigas Camps and Duplicate Plans

These special areas are always quite fun moments, although much too simple. On a mission in the depths, The ninjas have established advanced bases which they protect with their own constructions. By eliminating their leader, who is bathed in a red aura, you will unlock the treasure room which systematically contains a duplicate plan for an automatic construction, but also 20 energy crystals to exchange at Fort Guet. If you come across any Yigas structures, make sure to loot them, sometimes there are some crazy blueprints to unlock.

Sonium Farm and Refiner Golems

Sonium is the main resource that you will find in astronomical quantities on the Depths map. It has two main uses:

  • Create duplicate plans without using the original parts at all: the 3D printer hopes to run on sonium.
  • Trade to refiner golems so they can upgrade your battery. This is a pretty important part of Link’s gear so don’t neglect it!

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Refiner Golem: Where to find it, How to exchange your sonium?

Looking for a way to spend all that precious sonium you’ve been collecting in the depths? Then you’ll need to go looking for refiner golems, those entities that regularly hang out in the abandoned mines underground to sell you precious energy crystals.

Genie statues and their outfits

Oh yes, the famous spirits! We would bet our life on it, you must have wondered what this famous resource is used for, recovered in packs of 10 in the Depths. It is in fact a currency available for the statues of genius: there are 6 in all and for all on the world map, 5 in the depths and 1 on the surface at Fort Guet. Their inventory is particularly interesting, as it contains the Dark Link outfit and a second anti-miasma set.

Bosses and Monster Coliseums

As you wander through the deep areas, you will regularly come across bosses also visible on the surfacebut in miasmatic versions. It goes a little further than that, two other types of hairier tests are available in the corner:

  • It is possible to find dungeon bosses directly in the depths and fight them again. Each fight will give you energy crystals as a reward.
  • Monster Coliseums are scattered across the map. : inside you will have to face one type of enemy of all colors, separated, then a last fight with all the colors together at the same time (there is one with lynels).
