The First Descendant accused of copying Destiny 2 icon designs

Players have noticed that Destiny 2 and The First Descendant share a surprising number of icon designs.

Comparisons between The First Descendant and Destiny are hardly new. Those interested in the former have long made the connection with the latter, and those impressions have only strengthened since The First Descendant launched on July 2.

However, some have spotted similarities between the two that go beyond gameplay and superficial aesthetic resemblances. Forbes’ Paul Tassi addressed the topic in an article that draws attention to icons and guns “barely modified” from The First Descendant.

Tassi noted that Several in-game icons in Nexon’s title resemble a number of those included in Destiny 2.

For example, as pointed out by Twitter user/X, the Electric Transition logo in The First Descendant looks a lot like the Inertia Override imagery in D2.

The two multiplayer shooters also share at least one sniper rifle design, with Destiny 2’s IKELOS sniper clearly having inspired the angular appearance of the Dissimilar Dream rifle (Different Dream in VO) of the new game.

Despite this obvious inspiration, some argue that The First Descendant may have crossed the line by ostensibly copying Bungie’s popular shooter.

However, few members of The First Descendant’s burgeoning community seem surprised by these so-called plagiarisms, especially since they have also spotted glaring similarities to Warframe.

In a discussion thread on Reddit regarding comparisons to Destiny 2, some people have even called Nexon’s latest creation a “true copy” of the Digital Extremes shooter.

One person wrote: “This is not surprising given that everything else is also a carbon copy of Warframe.”

Someone else added: “I facepalmed a little when I saw that they almost copied Warframe’s modding system exactly. They didn’t even change anything…”

However, some The First Descendant players believe the game should take even more inspiration from Warframe, especially in terms of customization.

Regardless, the new free game is already enjoying great success after reaching a historic peak of more than 264,000 concurrent players on Steam.
