A leak suggests that Crash Team Rumble, the marsupial’s latest installment, could have arrived on Nintendo Switch… but Activision opted to cancel it.
Both Crash Bandicoot and Spyro are two classics of 3D platforms, which in recent years have been ”in the shadow”. The most recent developments have been handled by Toys for Bob, Activision studio that has already disassociated itself from Microsoft.
However, Toys for Bob is working on a new Xbox exclusive (could be a new installment of Crash or Spyro), as part of a separate deal.
What is the future of Crash Bandicoot? At the moment, what we know is that the fifth installment was cancelled (confirmed in July 2024), and it’s a shame, because it would have been a dream game for fans.
In Crash Bandicoot 5, our beloved marsupial and his sister Coco traveled from one world to another in search of Uka Uka, the evil villain of the saga, after organizing a new plan at the Academy of Evil.
The interesting thing is that Crash and Coco would run into Spyrosince Uka Uka would attack the dragon world in which our beloved little dragon lives.
All that is history now, because Crash Bandicoot 5 (or at least that version) is no more. However, it seems that It wasn’t the only marsupial game to be cancelled recently..
Another Crash game cancelled
Historian Liam Robertson, through a new video on DidYouKnowGaming, has shared New details on another cancellation in the marsupial saga. It’s not as important as Crash 5, but it’s also bad news for fans.
It turns out that Toys for Bob has been developing a version of Crash Team Rumble for the Nintendo SwitchHowever, poor reception of the online multiplayer game dashed any hope.
Crash Team Rumble, while not a bad game, was not the hit Activision had hoped for. It has some good ideas, but we criticised the lack of content on top of its fun foundations.
It seems that at Activision and Toys for Bob They did not see clearly that the game was going to take off or improve as the months went by.and that’s why the Switch version was cancelled.
It doesn’t look like the game will be resurrected and come to the hybrid console, so Crash Team Rumble remains a PlayStation and Xbox release.
Crash Team Rumble is, to date, the latest game in the marsupial franchise. It is available from June 2023 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, and there’s no news of a PC release. Remember that Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is already on Game Pass.
