Valve has finally announced its new game and made it official. But it’s not what everyone was hoping for, and it’s likely to disappoint a lot of people. Here’s what we know.
Gamers have been waiting a long time for a new creation from Valve, a studio known for its legendary games, but also for its very sparing release schedule. After years of silence and speculation, the announcement of a new game from them is almost an event in itself, as Valve is known for taking its time before unveiling a project. Alas, it is not Half Life 3.
Valve Announces New Game in Development
Valve has finally confirmed the existence of Deadlock, its new multiplayer game. The announcement was made quietly, but it puts an end to months of rumors. A Steam page has been created for the game, confirming Valve as the developer and publisher. Deadlock is still in early development. The studio says the game features a lot of temporary elements and experimental gameplay. For now, only a few players have access to the game, and they can invite friends to try out this work-in-progress.
Although the announcement was recent, Deadlock was not completely unknown. Since May 2024, information has been leaking through closed tests. By August, tens of thousands of players had already discovered the game through invitations. Even some media outlets were able to test the game in advance.
Valve has taken a cautious approach to introducing Deadlock. On Steam, a simple animated image accompanies the announcement, with no additional details. System requirements are limited to a 64-bit processor and operating system, leaving players in suspense. Inevitably, this choice of game is likely to disappoint, since everyone (or almost everyone) is clamoring for Half-Life 3. Such is life.
What future for Deadlock?
Deadlock looks promising, but its success remains uncertain. Valve has already had great successes with Counter-Strike and Dota 2, but also failures like Artifact. It is therefore difficult to predict whether Deadlock will enjoy the same popularity. Only time will tell. For now, players remain curious and eager to see how Deadlock evolves. This new project from Valve could well become a staple of multiplayer gaming, or simply go unnoticed.
