€109 billion pledged. At the February 2025 AI Action Summit in Paris, France announced roughly €109B in AI investment — framed as its answer to the US 'Stargate' project.

The 'third way' idea. President Macron pitched strategic autonomy — European (and allied) AI infrastructure, data and compute — as a counterweight to US and Chinese dominance, not isolation.

Mistral is the flagship. France's clearest win is Mistral, a genuinely competitive frontier lab now valued in the tens of billions, plus new domestic compute (data centers, chips).

International money followed. Big commitments from partners (e.g. a multi-tens-of-billions UAE pledge for a gigawatt-scale French data center) added to the war chest.

The honest scorecard: the champion (Mistral) is a real success; the broader promise of economy-wide 'stratospheric growth' is still aspirational — big pledges don't automatically become GDP.

Be clear-eyed: pledges are not outcomes. Announcing €109B is a commitment to invest, not money already turned into productivity, and 'stratospheric growth thanks to AI' is a slogan, not a forecast.…
