The best version of the Nintendo Switch
The Nintendo Switch OLED has the same characteristics as the first version of the console (hybrid format, dock, detachable Joy-Con, etc.) and as its name suggests, it replaces the LCD screen with a sumptuous OLED panel. This is also larger since it increases to a diagonal of 7 inches (compared to 6.2 inches for the first Switch) and has thinner borders in order to benefit from better immersion when viewing it. ‘use in portable mode.
The part hardware did not move, however. This console is still based on a Tegra X1+ SoC from Nvidia, a chip whose latest version was released five years ago now. It was on the occasion of the update of the first Switch of the name, you should also know that the Tegra X1 was originally designed for Nvidia’s Shield TV box released in 2015, nine years ago NOW. No wonder the power of the console is the subject of controversy, the Nintendo Switch is indeed living its last years before the Switch 2 definitively takes over.
Welcome adjustments
In addition to its new panel, the Nintendo Switch OLED welcomes some welcome new features in terms of its design. First of all, the dock sports nicely rounded corners, a more discreet logo and a new Ethernet port. Nintendo did, however, remove the pads underneath the item, making it slippery on a surface. As for the console itself, it has a new kickstand at the back and is slightly heavier by around twenty grams than the first Nintendo Switch.
The storage space has also been revised since it goes from 32 GB to 64 GB, knowing that there is always the possibility of extending this capacity with a microSD card. As for autonomy, it does not change since we find the same 4,310 mAh battery capable of lasting up to 9 hours on a charge. We notice that in the end, the changes are not that numerous and are mainly of an aesthetic nature since the performances have not evolved, just like the resolution of the display which remains at 720p in portable mode and at 1080p in docked .
