Worldcoin’s World ID will appear on Solana through Wormhole funding

Worldcoin Foundation has announced $70,000 grant to Wormhole to support World ID verification on the Solana blockchain.

In a statement on June 27, Worldcoin said the ID integration effort will “equip the Solana ecosystem with an essential tool” to prove humanity.

This grant awards 25,000 WLD to Wormhole.

Wormhole detailed the funding in more detail, saying that it will enable protocols on the Solana platform to seamlessly verify previously authenticated user IDs on the Ethereum blockchain.

To do this, Wormhole Queries in the Ethereum-Solana state bridge service will propagate World ID state primitives between chains. The state bridge service will monitor the World ID contract and securely transfer changes to Solana, where a smart contract will store the World ID state primitives and validate the included proofs.

Benefits of integration

Wormhole has described a number of benefits associated with this integration. This approach will enable new use cases and demonstrate the flexibility of Wormhole’s multi-chain infrastructure.

Furthermore, the integration aims to make verification easy for developers and ensure compatibility with future verification method updates and improvements.

This effort also aims to enhance security and decentralization by ensuring ID verification is performed in a privacy-preserving manner. It will also improve cross-chain interoperability by allowing more decentralized applications to interact with the identity verification system on Ethereum.

Ultimately, the initiative aims to expand financial inclusion by supporting Worldcoin in providing universal access to the digital economy for ID users worldwide.

Other Worldcoin Sponsorships

The Worldcoin Foundation announced 16 grants worth a total of 289,000 WLD.

Other grantees include Axiom, Proof of Passport, Farcaster Humaniser, Alphaday, Only Dust, Encode Club, zkSnap, TACEO, Cometh, Herodotus, World Poll, Agora, Fuzzing Labs, Satori, and BBB & Company.

TACEO has previously contributed to improving Worldcoin’s data collection.

The funded projects are tasked with strengthening the Worldcoin ecosystem in a variety of ways, from research and development to education and outreach efforts.

What is World ID?

World ID is claimed to be a decentralized, privacy-preserving identity solution that brings “global proof of personhood to the Internet.” This essentially allows each user to prove that they are truly a unique individual, rather than allowing bots to abuse the Worldcoin services and benefits offered to users. World ID is designed for citizens of developing countries, many of whom do not have any form of identity that can be accurately verified.

Worldcoin claims that World ID can be thought of as “a digital passport that allows you to prove you are a unique and real person while remaining anonymous.” This stored data is protected by Zk (zero-knowledge) technology, which allows it to be used to verify personhood – the subject’s status as an individual – without revealing their actual identity or online habits to partners.

World ID is not tied to actual biometric data, but is simply a form of proof that the user has been verified and can be trusted as a real person. This is similar to most forms of identification that include some sort of watermark, embossing, or hologram to confirm the legitimacy of the document.

Use cases for World ID include allowing users to “log in with Worldcoin” on websites, mobile apps or cryptocurrency DApps.
