You will receive many fewer emails in your Gmail account, but it is for good reason

Every day, Google, together with AI, detect and block more than 15 billion spam emails a day. And, furthermore, more than 99.9% of the emails that pass the filter end up directly in the SPAM folder. But it’s not enough.

Thus, Google has just implemented in Gmail a new feature that could wipe out most of the SPAM and of Phishing that reach our email accounts. These new security measures are mainly based on much stricter thresholds and filters that must be passed before appearing in users’ inboxes.

Gmail’s new anti-spam measures

On the one hand, as Google announced last October, very strict restrictions will be imposed for those users who want to send more than 5,000 emails a day to Gmail accounts. Although it seems like a lot, almost any advertising campaign far exceeds this threshold, not to mention any scam campaign that may take place. To be able to send more than these 5,000 emails a day, Gmail accounts must be professional, and they must configure the SPF/DKIM and DMARC authentication for your domains.

Another important change that we found within our email is that all those who send mass emails, for advertising purposes, must offer the user a one-click unsubscription option. And, in addition, guarantee a cancellation response within a maximum of two days.

The rate of Email SPAM It should not exceed 0.3% of the total emails sent. If more than 0.3% of email recipients mark it as spam, the domain may have trouble sending future messages, as all of its emails will almost certainly end up in the spam folder. And, of course, it is prohibited to change email headers to impersonate Gmail or any other company.

These new guidelines, and others that we can see on the Gmail blog, came into force last February, although it was not until now, April 2024, when they will become mandatory.

How it affects us

If we are a company that sends emails, newsletters, or any other type of mass content by mail, we will have a lot of work to ensure we comply with these new rules if we do not want to have problems.

However, if we are simple Gmail users, these new changes will mean a significant improvement in quality of life for everyone. From today, we will see how our email accounts receive much fewer scam emails, since pirates have a difficult time carrying out these practices. And, furthermore, many of the emails that arrived in our inbox will now be directly in the SPAM folder, having a much cleaner inbox and with emails that are really important.

As we have indicated, this only affects mass emails. Personal mail, from person to person, will continue to be sent and received as always, without problems.
