If the vastness of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom’s open world and tons of side activities aren’t enough for you, you can still spend dozens more hours filling your Encyclopediaa passage which is also mandatory for the completion of 100%.
How to complete your Encyclopedia?
Just like in Breath of the Wild, you can get a camera quite early in the game, allowing you to take pictures of absolutely everything you come across. You will then have to distinguish between two things:
- Your album : an ephemeral folder that only keeps the 64 most recent images (useful if you want to show a photo to an NPC for a quest),
- The encyclopedia : which records absolutely every item, monster and other ingredient you take a picture of.
To register an item in the encyclopedia, you only need to take a picture of it once (its name will then be indicated in orange/red above it when you take out the camera). From the beginning of the adventure, it is strongly recommended to photograph everything you see to avoid having to do everything at the end.
Note that it is possible to fill your encyclopedia by going to buy a random photo, for a hundred rubies, at the Elimith Laboratory. You must first complete Faras’ quests. The latter will also give you the Detectorallowing you to see where the objects of your choice are when you are nearby.
How many photos should I take?
A sort of Pokédex to fill out, your “Compendium” is filled with more than 400 numbered boxes that you will need to complete with photos.
- 92 animals
- 110 monsters/enemies including bosses (if you are missing 243, know that this is a
Elimith Pumpkin
to be unlocked once all the village quests are completed) - 126 materials and ingredients
- 175 outfits and weapons
- 6 treasures
(a chest, a black ore vein, a gold ore vein, a nox gem vein, a sonium vein, and a well)
Be sure to check out the video below (in English) which lists absolutely every shot you should take, in order, for your encyclopedia:
What is the reward for completing the encyclopedia?
In Breath of the Wild it was possible to obtain
a picture of young Impa
when all the items were listed in the encyclopedia. In TotK, it seems that the reward is a special fabric for your paraglider! This remains to be confirmed, do not hesitate to tell us in the comments if you have succeeded in such a challenge.
And even if it is possible to buy some photos at the Lab, this task is extremely long and tedious: you must not forget to take pictures of dungeon bosses for example, but also to farm the monsters after each Blood Moon so that their colors change.
