Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Glider: How to Get It Off the Ground?

After mastering the raft and the cart, it’s easy to believe that the glider will be just as quickly mastered, but the opposite is what awaits you in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.

Where to find a glider?

To avoid any confusion, let’s clarify that we are talking about the Glider, the soneau artifact. If you are looking for how unlock the Parasail, it’s in this guide. Even though they have things in common, they are not the same thing at all.

You can find many gliders on the sky islands, especially the ones that look like runways, which makes sense. A good way to reach them is to use the Recon Towers to get launched into the sky, then use the Paraglider (heh) or the controlled fall to the water point present in the center of the island. On the island of the prelude, you will encounter your first glider after having completed the third shrine, in the snowy area.

It is also possible to obtain some in the second capsule distributor of the Prelude, among others. This way, you can take a glider out of your inventory, wherever and whenever you want. But as we will see, the glider is much more difficult to use than one might think at first glance.

How to fly the Glider?

The problem with the glider is that it’s just a big metal plate, and the friction with the ground prevents it from gaining speed to take off. It also has a tendency to flip stupidly into the void, if you try to take off from a ledge. We had the painful experience of this. You are supposed to use the takeoff strips, specifically provided for this purpose. As with the trolleys, the rails will in fact make the glider slide, for easy take-off.

We don’t always have a runway at hand, and we would all like to use the glider everywhere. There are a few options available to us for this. The first is to use brute force, by sticking several rockets to the glider. The initial thrust allows you to take off from just about anywhere. But since rockets are also rare, this is not a good solution.

The alternative is to glue wheels, or casters specifically designed for this purpose, to the glider. If the terrain is suitable, and if you use at least turbines, you should be able to take off without too much trouble. The big drawback with this method is that it will seriously weigh down the vehicle and throw it off balance, making it difficult to control, especially when you are losing speed.

Finally, it is possible to perform some manipulations using the power ofGrip to keep the glider in the air, or even to make it trace a loop, before putting it on the ground. Then climb on it, then activate the power of Retrospectivein order to make it trace the opposite path. It will then take off and fly. You have to be careful to quickly take control and then correct your trajectory.

Control the glider

You can turn the glider by moving on its surface. Stepping on the left wing will cause it to turn left due to the imbalance it creates. If you move forward, it will nose-dive and lose altitude, but the speed gained will allow it to continue gliding, instead of simply falling. Stepping on the tail will raise the nose to maintain altitude, or even gain some, but the loss of speed is dangerous unless you have some means of propulsion attached. All of this means that the weight and balance of the glider are paramount, so try to take this into account when adding elements with the Grip.

Be aware, however, that the glider is absolutely not made for long journeys. After a while, it will start to flash green. This flashing will accelerate, and a few seconds later, it will completely disappear under your feet. If you want to make a long journey, or if you want to reach something at high altitude, we advise you to use a flying platform to which you have attached turbines. If you have enough turbines in stock, there is almost no limit.
