Exploring the depths of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is a must to harvest large amounts of Sonium, but that’s not all there is to find. The spirits of the dead are also lost in the darkness, and they’re waiting for your help, so you can buy yourself a new hat.
Where to find spirits?
They are only present in the dark depths, present under the continent. You have to jump into an abyss to reach the area: the large holes lined with miasma. The spirits are mostly present in small groups, on the ground, but you can find larger, more profitable spirits, perched high up, on buildings and plants, later.
What are spirits for?
Spirits only have one use as far as we know. You can’t cook them, which is a shame, but you can trade them at the various special statues, like the one in Watchhold, and all its brethren in the Depths.
The objects offered by the statue are few at first, but by finding its brothers, or by scanning Amiibos, this will add various and varied armors, like an anti-miasma armor, or a dark Link armor, among others.
You can also give spirits to the statue in the Watchtower, so that it can show you the location of its brothers. Unless you use a guide with a map with their location, this is a good investment.
Guidance by the spirits
Zelda TotK’s draw distance isn’t great for small objects, but it’s longer than average for spirits. This means that when you arrive in an unlit area of the depths, you’ll still see the spirits, and the faint glow they emit. This has a double advantage, you know that spirits are always above a solid surfaceand with very rare exceptions, they are not above the miasma. By descending from the surface in a Paraglider, you can land on the spirits you see, almost without fear. There are even places where the spirits form a sort of path to follow between the pools of miasma.
