Nintendo was smart, while Zelda Breath of the Wild focused on the good use of powers and world mechanisms to progress, Zelda Tears of the Kingdom goes further. You must now learn to build viable vehicles with your powers, in order to cross the various obstacles of the moment, such as a chasm or a river. Maybe you will have to build a real base in the sequel?
You’re never really stuck
This is especially true early in the game, the developers are not FromSoftware, and they don’t take pleasure in making you fail miserably. You always have all the tools at hand to progress, or the adventure points you towards the place where you can find the solution in general. Observe the elements around yousuch as logs, a sail, a hook, trees, then propellers, an overhead rail, the presence or absence of wind. A simple solution should quickly appear by trying to combine them. Things will eventually get complicated, but that will be for later in the adventure.
If you ever drop the required items, or even your vehicle, into the voiddon’t panic. You always have some extra items to try again, or there is an alternative way to cross elsewhere in the area. As a last resort, you can simply reload the areawhich will reset everything. Moving far enough away and then coming back, changing zones, loading a save, or committing suicide are all viable methods. But be careful, this also means that You will lose your vehicle if you do any of these actions. Avoid going exploring in the middle of your construction.
There’s nothing stopping you from experimenting with exotic methods and being creative. The developers clearly haven’t thought of everything, and the world is your sandbox, and players have already created some crazy things. Testing things and failing is a good way to progress in this game, as it sometimes allows you to discover incredible tricks that will save you a lot of time.
Building a viable vehicle
One of the points often underestimated at the start, but which is nevertheless One of the most important is stability. This is true whether you are building a log bridge or a raft. Never settle for building a vehicle that is minimalistic in size. While it may be tempting to save a little time like this, you will actually waste time. Logs roll, vehicles tip over. Always build a wedge at the base of your bridges to stabilize themeven if the rest is only a log wide. For vehicles, make them at least 3 to 4 logs wideor even more. This will greatly increase their stability. There is nothing worse than falling into the void mid-ride, and having to build a new vehicle.
For the same reason, balance your means of propulsion. Remember that the thrust will cause the vehicle to veer off-center, or even flip it over. If you only have one thruster, put it in the center, if there are two, one on each side will do. However, it may be necessary to place them differently to counterbalance an external force, such as wind or current. Also calculate your starting point based on these forces, otherwise your arrival point will not be the desired one.
This goes a bit against the first point, but while maintaining balance and giving yourself space, try to create compact vehicles, especially flying ones. This will limit the risk of accidents. A huge vehicle will cling to everything, both vertically and horizontally, which risks complicating everything, or even getting you stuck in the worst place. Having a smaller vehicle will also limit the propulsion needs, increase speed, and save your battery. Also, it’s a waste of time and durability of your weapons to cut down all the trees in the area to build a giant ship that you will only use once.
Reuse your vehicles : In some sections of the game, you will encounter different obstacles, which you can still overcome with the same vehicle. At least, if you are a little inventive. You can combine a sail raft and a zip line, for example. A mine cart can also become a zip line cart by simply adding a hook. This avoids having to rebuild a vehicle and waste your precious components. This is where having a compact vehicle has its merits, you can transport it from one place to another, and adapt it more easily.
Miscellaneous advice
- Look for improve your battery throughout the game you will need it for longer and more perilous journeys.
- Consider doing the full of components near the ball machine. Giving more materials at once gives proportionally more components as a reward. Try to use them sparingly too, so you don’t run out at the worst possible time.
- Beware of trapsThings will quickly get unblocked, with more or less fatal obstacles. A broken overhead rail will send your precious cart falling into the voidand you with it. Take a few moments to observe the path you intend to take and its possible dangers.
- Initially, the only way to control a vehicle is to properly orient its means of propulsion. Even while already on the vehicle, you can unhook a turbine by shaking the right stick, after activating the Grip. Later, you can install a steering wheel to steer your machine directly.
It’s not obvious at first, but some components have a limited duration of usesuch as the Glider or the Turbines. They can disappear at the worst possible moment and literally leave you hanging. So you have to choose your building base carefully and what you can hope to achieve. Flying Platforms are often an excellent choice, almost risk-free, if you have one handy.
