If endurance is very important in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom and you can get up to three full gauges, hearts are even more important because they will allow you to resist longer against the terrible bosses of the game. Before starting, know that you can improve your defense with some outfits to avoid losing too many hearts. Similarly, anti-miasma techniques are available so that your hearts are no longer cursed in the Depths.
How many hearts can you have at most?
At the beginning of the adventure, poor Link will have lost all his strength, his sword and even his hearts! With only three basic receptacles, you will have to go in search of the sanctuaries in order to obtain Glimmers of Benevolence and exchange 4 of them at the Goddess Statue for a new red heart.
But making these trades isn’t the only way to get hearts! You can also complete the main story dungeons for example.
- In Zelda TotK, you can get 40 hearts in total10 more than in Breath of the Wild,
- You have 3 basic hearts,
- 31 can be obtained in exchange for Glimmers via the Goddess Statue,
- 6 are awarded by completing dungeons and the main story Boss,
- Optional Heart: The one from the Demon Statue quest
40 is the maximum number of hearts to obtain: this means that if you already have 40 because you prioritized life over endurance with the Goddess statues, you will not be able to obtain more. We therefore advise you to count carefully and favor the three endurance gauges when you have enough hearts.
If you are not satisfied with what you have chosen, note that it is possible to modify your number of hearts and endurance thanks to the Demon Statue.
Temporary yellow hearts
And if you are afraid of running out of life in certain situations, know that you can add more hearts thanks to some recipes! They will then be yellow, a sign that they will not stay there forever. If you receive damage, they will disappear first. Ingredients with the term “Max” are to be used to prepare dishes and remedies.
Max Remedy for example is a good idea when you are going for a tough fight. You can get it by mixing any monster loot with a Max Salmon, Max Perch, Max Truffle or Max Big Truffle.
