ZKsync Launches Elastic Chain to Support Layer 2 Ecosystem Expansion

Yesterday, ZKsync was announced Launched Elastic Chain – a network of ZK* rollups designed for maximum security and seamless interoperability, providing users with a unified and intuitive experience.

Zksync launch Elastic Chain for enhanced interoperability blockchain

The launch of ZKsync Elastic Chain (ZKsync 3.0 protocol upgrade) marks a major milestone, expanding the ZK Chain network through shared routing contracts. The upgrade aims to address the current challenges of user experience and capital efficiency in a multi-chain environment.

Released on June 7, 2024, the ZKsync 3.0 upgrade reconfigures the ZKsync layer 1 bridge into a shared routing contract, laying the foundation for a broad network of interoperable ZK Chains. The ZKsync Era will soon be joined by over 20 new ZK Chains scheduled to launch in 2024. Elastic Chain leverages recursive ZK Proofs*, allowing for infinite parallelism and fast verification, establishing it as a highly scalable blockchain network.

Scaling Up blockchain with ZK Proof recursive

The change is part of the ecosystem’s broader strategy to improve security and efficiency in moving assets across different layer 1 and layer 2 blockchains. Unlike traditional cross-chain bridges, Elastic Chain creates an ecosystem of interconnected autonomous chains, streamlining asset transfers and reducing friction.

The announcement follows ZKsync’s recent roadmap update, which marks a departure from its previous single Ethereum layer 2 setup to adopt the ZKsync Elastic Chain architecture. The new network positions ZKsync among the leading scaling solutions that leverage interconnected layer 2 networks, leveraging shared infrastructure for enhanced scalability and functionality.

*Zero-knowledge (ZK) refers to a type of protocol in which one party can prove to another party that a statement is true without revealing any information other than the truth of that statement.

*Zero knowledge proofs (ZKPs) are a method in cryptography and number theory that allows a party to prove that they know a certain truth without revealing specific information about that truth. In a ZKP, the prover is able to demonstrate to the verifier that a statement is true without providing any additional information beyond the credibility of the statement. In blockchains, ZKPs can be used to verify the correctness of a transaction without revealing sensitive details such as the amount of money in the transaction. This helps protect user privacy while ensuring the integrity of the system.
