Game news 30 years is the time it took to complete the level of this cult FPS and set an extraordinary record

The world of speedrunning has just experienced a major new event as an almost thirty year old record has just been broken on Doom II.

Less than 5 seconds to make history

The speedrunning community is in turmoil as a legendary record has just been broken. A player called 4shockblast has just established a new record for the Entryway level of Doom II by completing the level in less than five seconds. An extraordinary performance, broadcast in full – which is not complicated – on YouTube. Be careful, the video goes very, very quickly. Beyond the performance captured which inevitably impresses, it is also the record itself which is remarkable, since it had never been beaten in almost thirty years.

A record almost thirty years old

Even though the title of the video states otherwise, this run was set on Ultraviolence difficulty with all enemies present on the map. The term Pacifist here refers to the fact that the player does not kill any enemies due to his velocity, as highlighted by PC Gaming.

This new record is a real achievement, for several reasons. Firstly because it breaks the previous record established in 1998 by Thomas Pilger, but also because 4shockblast has completely optimized its run here, with all the obstacles and their random nature what’s more. Thus, the player uses here a set of techniques including the Sr50, a kind of super Strafing – or exploit the momentum of the character during his race to accelerate his movements, as well as the speed of inertia generated by the opening of the different doors in the level. Said like that, it may seem very simple, but in reality, it is much less so: in 26 years, no one had ever gone below five seconds. If you want to know more about this record, we invite you to watch the shared video.
