Already a new Prince of Persia at Ubisoft… Isn’t it (much) too soon?

While waiting for the next Star Wars Outlaws scheduled for the very end of summer, Ubisoft treated players at the start of the year with the excellent Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. While waiting for the full remake of The Sands of Time, it was in the form of an astonishing metroidvania that the saga made its return last January. While we thought we would have to wait many more months before seeing our favorite prince again, a new game is taking shape: The Rogue Prince of Persia.

A new Prince of Persia… again?

Still published by Ubisoft, this new vision of the prince of Persia has been entrusted to the expert hands of Evil Empire. A (French) studio which may not mean anything to you, but which has nevertheless proven its talent in recent years with Dead Cells. In The Rogue Prince of Persia, we discover a 2D game with an artistic direction very close to a comic book, the characters benefiting from a purplish complexion.

It’s hard not to see the obvious connection with Dead Cells here, through a game which will give pride of place to somersaults and acrobatics of all kinds, without forgetting of course many very dynamic fights. This is a new action roguelite, in which you will have to find a way to save Persia from the invasion of the Huns.

As the game progresses, you will obviously be able to obtain new weapons, new accessories offering various special effects, but also improve your equipment to create your own configuration. Each excursion will be an opportunity to test a new combination of weapons and medallions. Roguelite requires, we will gain power with each death. New challenges will be offered in procedurally generated levels, making each excursion unique.

Shelved 15 years ago after the release of the Prince of Persia reboot (in cel shading), Ubisoft’s flagship license has been returning to form in recent months. After The Lost Crown at the start of the year, and after this The Rogue Prince of Persia, it is the Sands of Time remake which is firmly awaited by players. After 15 years of absence, in 2024, we will be entitled to 2 new Prince of Persia in the space of less than 6 months.

For many players, however, the announcement of The Rogue Prince of Persia represents surprising timing, with a “new Prince of Persia” launched a few weeks after The Lost Crown. While some see this as a direct competition between the two games, others believe that since the proposals are different (a real adventure game vs. a roguelite), the success of one could actually benefit the other.

When is The Rogue Prince of Persia? Where is it ?

Still, The Rogue Prince of Persia is expected on May 14, barely a month from now. Currently, the game is only listed on PC, through Steam. Let’s see now if (and when) the latter will arrive on our favorite video game consoles.
