First publication since first text

SpaceX’s satellite communications service, Starlink, will soon exit white zones. He is currently developing a new direct mobile connectivity proposal that would allow you to access the Internet from a satellite on your smartphone (without using a Starlink antenna).

And the project continues to advance following the successful launch of the first satellite capable of simulating a 4G network, with Starlink continuing its development. Starlink tested the new service by sending the first text message six days after launch. After this first text message, the first publication for X is announced.

“This message was transmitted into space via the SpaceX Direct to Cell satellite.”You can read about it in the SpaceX publication about

Text, call, mobile data

Starlink is not the first company to offer mobile satellite communications services. But unlike its competitors, Starlink can offer its service on any 4G smartphone without any chips or special equipment. This is possible because the technology developed by Starlink can serve as a 4G infrastructure located in space.

The service will provide access to text messaging via satellite starting this year, according to a schedule released by SpaceX. From 2025, not only phone calls but also mobile data will be provided. In addition, Starlink’s Direct To Cell product also plans to provide services for the Internet of Things.

On the other hand, if this service can provide access to mobile networks in white areas, it is not intended to replace existing infrastructure, as connectivity is quite limited. Additionally, unlike Starlink’s fixed internet (via antenna), mobile connectivity is provided in partnership with operators. Therefore, the Direct to Cell offer is only available if SpaceX cooperates with the operator.
