This stake by HBM will account for 14% of the total of DRAM memory and will offer an income of 20.1% compared to 8.4% in 2023.
The manufacturing of HBM memory involves a challenge for manufacturers of this type of memory. The chip is larger that DDR5 between a 35 and 45% moreFurthermore, the process is up to 2 months longerwith total exceeds 6 months of production from the initial step to the final packaging. It must also be taken into account that HBM memory offers a lower performance rate between 20 and 30% compared to DDR5.
Samsung is expected to be able to manufacture by the end of 2024 up to 130,000 units and SK Hynix another 120,000leaving between 20,000 and 25,000 to Micron. However, SK-Hynix has 90% of the HBM3 marketfollowed by Samsung thanks to the HBM3 memory included in the recently launched AMD Instinct MI300.
