Huawei would also be working on a processor for PC

But it seems that it is not the only large manufacturer that wants to share the market share of Intel and amd. According to what they say from China, Huawei is developing a new processor with Taishan V130 cores with which it wants to become an alternative to Apple’s M3 processor and now also to the Snapdragon from Qualcomm.

Huawei wants to manufacture its processors

This leak, which has appeared on the Weibo social network, claims to not know what the name of this processor will be, but Huawei’s intention is to achieve multi-core performance similar to that currently offered by the M3 basic from Apple, it has a Mali-920 graphics processor.

Being a processor designed to consume few resources, the most likely thing is that, if this project finally sees the light, first of all, it will reach the laptops of this manufacturer and, if things work, there is the possibility that it will launch versions for desk.

It could even launch them on the market so that third-party manufacturers can use them in their equipment or even at home, although the latter is unlikely since, as happens with all processors with ARM architectureall components are soldered and there is no way to expand them.

As for the rest of the specifications, this source states through Weibo that the team will have 32 GB of RAM and 2 TB of storage. But, the most important thing here is how it can be manufactured taking into account the limitations that the American government has imposed to prevent any country from selling its products. lithography machines more modern to China.

How will you manufacture them?

Taking these limitations into account, Huawei currently only has two options. The first is to use a 7nn manufacturing process of SMIC, however, will mean a consumption very high and a lower battery life compared to both Apple’s MacBook and the new Qualcomm processor that it officially presented a few days ago, placing itself at a clear disadvantage with a very uncompetitive product on the market.

HiSilicon Kirin 9000S processor

The other option is to wait for the 5nn SMIC production line to be ready for wafer manufacturing, a process that will arrive throughout this year. Precisely, this is the same manufacturing process used in the new range of Mate 70 mobile phones, a processor whose performance is very close to the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 from Qualcomm.

More competition in the processor market means that the price of these will be lower, so, in the end, the beneficiaries will always be the home users. If Huawei continues with this project, it is most likely that, until mid-2025, we will not see the first product on the market.
