LoL requires TPM 2.0 in its new patch and playing on Windows 11 gives error VAN9001

Riot makes effective LoL patch 14.9 and requests TPM 2.0 among your requirements to play. The “Windows 11 users” go to war.

Controversial decision, but necessary for Riot after implementing an update to the anti-cheat system Vanguard. It was released on May 1 and several players using Windows 10 have suffered the VAN9001 error because of it. That said, it has been seen that it is not impossible to update to Windows 11 despite not having the famous TPM on our system.

Bundled in LoL with patch 14.9 and the TPM 2.0 requirement

If you don’t know what TPM is, at Profesional Review we explain it in a tutorial marked by the importance of Windows 11. Vanguard now asks in its patch 14.9 that we have TPM 2.0 active if we are using Windows 11which shouldn’t be a problem, right?

Who will suffer this change? Users who upgraded to Windows 11 by circumventing the TPM requirements, that is, those who upgraded to Windows 11 without having this requirement in order. Many decided to break the rule by editing the famous “Regedit” registry keys, so playing LoL is going to be difficult for them.

He RIOT team took to Reddit to say that only 0.7% of users omitted this requirement, suffering only 0.03% these problems of error VAN9001. If you are one of these users, you have 2 options:

  • Buy new motherboard or new laptop.
  • Return to Windows 10.

Microsoft doesn’t like the second solution because it is an option that can make you lose notoriety. It has already taken you too long to convince us to upgrade to Windows 11, to add more arguments to return. Personally, I’m still on Windows 10 after trying 11, and it hasn’t convinced me enough at the moment; Furthermore, my 2017 computer does not have the famous TPM 2.0.

A different matter is that TPM 2.0 usually requires UEFI and that the OS be installed in GPT, instead of MBR; This problem can be solved more easily. Riot retracts that it is a necessary evil and is the only way to ensure that Vanguard offers a competitive and fair platform.
